My eyes slowly opened and I felt exhausted. I felt like I had quite a long sleep, well a better sleep than I had when my parents died. I'd just keep having nightmares but last night? There was nothing, I closed my eyes and then when I opened them again I was awake. No dream, no nightmare. I prefer it that way. The sound of footsteps pacing up and down in my room must have woken me. I groaned a little and curled up trying to block the sound out but it was no use.
"Get up" Ward snapped but I shook my head. "I'll drag you out of bed" I groaned even more and slowly sat up, rubbing my eyes then shooting him a dirty look.
"What" I croaked, trying to wake myself up. He slowly sat down on the wooden chair opposite me and studied me. I raised an eyebrow at him, confused by how he was reacting. Maybe It was because I just woke up but he was acting really strange. "How can I help you, Ward?"
"Talk to me" I shook my head and began laughing a little. Was he serious? He woke me up because he wanted me to talk?
"Are you drunk? High? Or do you have a deathwish?"
"Maybe the third" He smiled slightly.
"So, you woke me up just so I could talk to you, is that correct?" He nodded slowly and I stood up frowning at him, anger rose up inside me. How bloody childish. "Are you serious!?"
"You're quite cute when you're mad" He smirked but then his eyes widened. "Like a puppy" He shrugged and I sat back down slowly.
"Ward, I may not like you and all but listen to me and answer honestly" I kept my voice low and calm as he watched me. "Are you okay?" He suddenly started laughing at me but I couldn't find the humour in it.
"Yes, I'm fine. I've come here for your humour that's all" He stood up slowly and walked closer but stopped inches away.
"Have you taken your medication?" I asked him and he just stood there smiling. "Have you done your daily dose of killing?" I paused and stared at him horrified. "I'm not your target am I?"
"Of course not" He sat down next to me and I felt extremely uncomfortable. "I've actually come with a reward for you" I daren't move, I daren't speak, I just watched him pull out a bottle of...Vodka? Is he serious? "You ate the food, you've behaved a little so here's the vodka you asked for" He held the bottle out for me to take but I daren't take it.
"You've been drinking it haven't you" I squinted my eyes at him but he shook his head. "Yes you have because I can smell it on you. That's very unprofessional of you and so is this" I smirked and he put the bottle down on the floor.
"Fine, If you don't want it I'll finish it later. Thought I'd try and be nice" He shrugged and headed towards the door slowly.
"Nice? You? Nice? Who's dead" I asked and he stopped, turning slowly to reveal a smile. My heart skipped a beat and fear washed over me. "Hunter..."
"Not quite" He shrugged and sat back down next to me. "I have a very interesting message though" I felt anger wash over me and I clenched my fists to try and hold it in. "You see, he is really not happy that I took you. You see, I may have told some lies" He picked the bottle up and passed me it. "You may want a drink"
Without hesitation I unscrewed the lid and gulped some of it down. I pulled a face at the taste of it and put it back on the floor.
"What did you say to him" I whispered waiting for him to answer.
"I told him you were dead" He suddenly looked very serious. His weird mood changed and he was back to his old self. "It was a risk I had to take and it wore off"
"How" I asked, I was scared, no, I was terrified. They no longer needed me if they already told Hunter I was dead! They could kill me off right now and it wouldn't matter!
"He's being reckless. Leading me right to him" He took my hand in his and I flinched trying to pull it back with no use. "You see Jess, I need you to do something for me" He smiled softly and I stared at him horrified.
"W...What" I didn't want to know the answer but I needed to know the answer.
"I need you to come with me and train" He stood up pulling me up with him.
"I'm sorry, what?" I stared at him dumbfounded. Here I was thinking that he was going to kill me but no, he was going to train me!
"You need to be trained. I'll be your mentor. You see, when you truly see what shield is like you'll need to be able to defend yourself against them"
"How do you know I wouldn't attack you" I asked, curious as to why he was trusting me so much.
"You wouldn't hurt me, even if you tried you wouldn't" He laughed it off and started walking.
"Why do you really want me to train?" I shouted at him and he stopped, turning back to me slowly.
"I need you in my big plan. He wants to kill me but I want to kill him. Well, I have a trick up my sleeve. Something he won't expect...I need to train and get ready for battle because I want you to kill your own brother"
