THE ANCIENT GUARDIANS
Chapter 1
Time is a peculiar thing. Some people have too much, some have too little. They say time heals everything. There's only one problem, it's so damn slow! I can't believe it has just been 15 minutes since class started. It seemed like an eternity to me, probably because I was so bored and wasn't paying any attention. Technically I was paying attention without paying attention, you see, it's a little gift. I can listen to someone talk yet do something else at the same time without reducing my attention to the person who's talking, like drawing in my notebook while the teacher, well, teaches. Which is always a surprise to the teachers who always think I'm not paying attention, then they ask me what they said and I answer correctly. Which is probably what will happen in a few seconds.
"Mr Colia! What the hell do you think you are doing?"
"I'm listening to you Mrs Dimsighted." The class laughed a bit with me for that remark.
"It's Dimshir! If you call me that one more time the principle will have you in his tender care. And you are NOT listening to me either; you're drawing in your notebook."
Mrs Gloretta Dimshir, my chemistry teacher, is a particularly short-tempered and loud woman. She's small, has brown eyes, brown hair and an aged face, probably around her forties. She's also usually patient (except with me of course) and round around the edges. I don't know how she got a Mr in any case. "Well there's that too...but you can't say I haven't been listening." Just after that I heard something like "Here we go again..." and "Just like with all the others." But they were just whispers though so I'm not quite sure.
"Oh really? What have I been saying then about reactions then?"
I was struggling not to smile, the teachers hate that, of course I knew everything about what she said. "A reaction has to be balanced on both sides of the equation. A reaction can also create or consume heat in its process. And most important, a reaction can always go the other way around, which is called a reverse reaction."
As I predicted she was completely speechless. "That's...right. I was wrong, I guess."
She went back to teaching and I went back to drawing. I admit I was a bit proud of myself. Then I saw something in the corner of my eye, well it was more of a feeling than something I saw. You know that feeling that tells you a pair of eyes is on you right now? That was it, so I turned around to find who else but William Midstone beaming at me. He is my only classmate that hates me. He has brown hair, brown eyes, slim arms, small body and long legs. He measures 5'9", which is only one inch shorter than me (by the way he hates it when I put that in his face). When all of my class kind of encouraged me to tease the teachers he was the only one who thought I was just a big show off. By the way I haven't introduced myself yet. My name is Alexander Colia, but my friends call me AC or Alex, I'm 16 years old and I'm in 11th grade. I have short, blonde hair, blue eyes, strong body with long legs and I measure 5'10". I'm captain of most of the sports teams for my school and I have a certain addiction to fire. I'd go on about myself but I have to get back to my story. Now back to little William. He's intelligent and likes to prove it, and I don't know why but he always seems like he wants to be on top, which makes him a sore loser. He's not a nerd if that's what you're thinking. He's more of a runner; he says he likes the feeling of the wind when he runs, whatever that means. The girls say he's cool, but they also say I'm cooler, which frustrates him a lot. He's always calm, except when he's talking to me; he always loses his cool. After the class was over William came over to me as we were getting out of the class.
