THE ANCIENT GUARDIANS

Chapter 3

When I woke up my head was pumping and it was hot. I opened my eyes and looked around. I was in a single-sized bed in a little room. I wasn't wearing anything except some underwear. There were no sheets on the bed either, yet it was still hot. There were some weird clothes on a bedside table with a note that said: "Put them on, you'll feel better." The note was as weird as the clothes, which were in this case very weird. They were so out of date I thought they looked like clothes from the time of Jesus, only mostly red. There was some kind of red tunic with an orange belt, the undergarments looked a bit more from this century, but were still red. To my surprise there were no socks or shoes. Then I smelled something burning. I looked down and noticed the underwear I had was disintegrating to ash. I grabbed the red one quickly and switched it straight away. The fabric was...indescribable. I couldn't tell what it was because I had never felt that in my entire life. Then, I heard footsteps coming my way. The tall man came into the doorway. He didn't have his cloak on so I could see what he looked like. He had long, brown, straight hair, going down his back. His ears seemed pointy and he had gray eyes with big eyebrows. He wore regular clothes of the time too. He seemed in his mid-twenties. He had a half-eaten muffin in his hand so I guess he was eating breakfast.

"Well look who's up, nice to finally meet you Alexander. You can call me Clint. Say, did you like your blond hair?"

            "Well yeah, kind of. Why?"

"You should look in the mirror for that answer. I'll go get one for you."

I was confused. When he came back with the mirror and I saw myself I couldn't believe that it was me that I was seeing. The features of my face had completely changed except for my nose and my skin tone. I had pointy ears too, with red eyes and, most shocking, long, puffy red hair going down my back. I was shocked. "Oh...my...god!"

"Here come the complaints..." he said with a sigh.

"This is so cool! I look like I came out of a Manga. All I need is a pair of sunglasses and it'll be perfect!" Clint seemed surprised. I checked myself on all sides and did some poses.

Clint was disgusted. He put his hand over his eyes. "Can you at least put some clothes on? You look like your posing for an underwear commercial."

I realized I was still half-naked, so I put the rest of the weird clothes on. "Why do I have to put THESE clothes on?"

"Do you know how hard it is to find clothes that can't burn?"

He got me on that one. "No."

"These are the only ones in the world, so get used to them."

"And why do I not only need clothes that can't burn but are also this out of date. What are they, from the time of Jesus?"

"As a matter of fact, they are. And the reason why you need ones that can't burn is that your normal body temperature is way over boiling temperature now. I can still smell your old underwear in fact. I thought it'd take longer for the heat to set in though."

That was just weird. Now I didn't want to talk about the clothes anymore, so I changed the subject. "Why am I here anyway?"

"Ah, here come the big questions. You're here because you're what we call an Ancient Guardian."
