BACK AT THE CASTLE

Lucie's Point of view

Today is the day when Kevin becomes the governor. The good thing is the whole family is going to the town. Out of this house for the first time ever. We dressed up all pretty and fancy to go. We are sitting in an open carriage waving at people. I blew kisses to people when father wasn't looking. Austin was trying not to laugh next to me. Tracy's mother kept on staring at the harbour looking for something. Her eyes widened then she quickly looked in the opposite direction and smiled at a few kids. I looked at my brothers and they came me a confused look that told me they saw. I looked in the direction and saw a beautiful blue and white boat come in. The name of the boat is Sapphire. Is it the one Tracy went on? Why is it called the Sapphire? Is it a relative of Tracy's mother? Questions ran through my brain. The carriage stopped right in front of the harbour entrance so we can climb out to go onto the makeshift stage. We stood behind father as he addressed the crowd. I looked from the corner of my eye and saw a well-built man get off the boat. He looked familiar but I couldn't place it.

"Onto sad news. My first daughter, Tracy, has been found dead a few days ago. We as a family miss her dearly and know all of you do too. We aren't going to have a memorial because the whole island loved her. But write a message and slip it into the box next to me so you get your say" my father said.

His voice broke when he said dead but I knew he was acting.

"But now onto good news. My first born, Kevin will take my reins as Governor as I'm getting too old. Let's rejoice in this victory. Another strong man as your governor" my father said.

The crowd cheered but some tried to and failed miserably because of Tracy's death. I looked back at that man and he looked at me straight into the eyes. He held a small blue handbag in his hand and motioned with his head to a market with bags. I watched as he gave the bag to the shop owner. He nodded at me and I gave him a small smile. He went back to his boat. After Kevin gave his little speech, I went up to my father. I was scared but determined to get that bag.

"Father?" I asked.

He turned around.

"Yes" he replied.

"I need to ask you a favour. As you know my mother's birthday is coming up and I wanted to get her something special. May I go buy the handbag I saw?" I asked.

He looked at me like he's trying to find out if I'm lying or not. Of course I'm not. My mother's birthday is coming up and I know she loves anything I buy for her. I just didn't mention the teeny tiny information about that man. He nodded and gave me money.

"Take your brothers with" he demanded.

"Thank you father" I said.

I walked to my brothers and Austin.

"Guys come I need to buy a handbag" I said.

"And why is this handbag so special that you have to buy it?" Malcolm asked.

"You know that boat Tracy's mother recognized?" I asked.

"Yes" they all said.

"A man got off it and stood there..." I said pointing to the spot I saw him, "He held up the handbag went he saw me looking and gave it to the shop owner. It's important" I said.

"How do you know it's safe?" Tony asked.

"I know because the man looked familiar. I now know why. It's because he's a relative of Sapphire. I think maybe a brother or something" I explained.
