Chapter 10

Everyone was silent. Rebecca stared outside and noticed that rain was drizzling lightly outside. She looked at the time. It was a quarter to eight. Around her, they were all looking uneasy until Tyler spoke. “How do you know?” He asked in a doubtful tone. Sebastian looked outside the window and Rebecca could see a look of distress on his face. “My brother, Jackson, told me. Before he was taken by the Order. He and Swede escaped from him at a point.” He paused. “As if knowing that he would soon be taken, he told me about some members of the Order incase I ever got into trouble with them. He mentioned Erik as their leader.” Sebastian faced them. “Erik is a Tristid.” “A what?” Rebecca asked frowning. Sebastian took a deep brath and hesitated. “A Tristid is the most powerful being. It is the combination of three creatures: Demon, Vampire and Werewolf. Otherwise known as Vamonolf.” Sebastian ended grimly. Rebecca was shocked to the marrow. Natasha just stared at Sebastian. Chris and Tyler were on edge and Gabrielle just stayed there closing her eyes, though she was trembling. Sebastian shook his head. “Rebecca, I’m sorry. I, I shouldn’t have mentioned it now. After what happened to your sister and..” He looked at her and she saw a mixture of fear, guilt and worry in his eyes. Rebecca felt like she was going to slump so she propped herself on the nearest chair available. Chris cleared his throat a little too noisily. “Thank you for that disturbing information. At least we know what we’re dealing with.” He addressed Sebastian who was still staring at Rebecca. “But we cant be too certain if the Order is already sure about you.” Gabrielle spoke surprising everyone. “I mean, sure they’ve suspected you but can you be so sure that you’ve been targeted? I mean if so, Mr. and Mrs. Wildew would have given us some information.” She shrugged. “She’s right.” Natasha said and Rebecca looked wearily at her. “I mean, the people that attacked Chris and I were not even vampires or anything. Maybe we just stumbled into the wrong place at the wrong time. But they seemed to know that we were vampires. But I’m sure it’s because we were coming from a vampire club.” What Gabrielle and Natasha said was not only comforting to Rebecca, it was true. At least there was hope. “I still don’t think you should go to school tomorrow.” Chris pressed on. Rebecca shook her head. “I have to go on pretending like everything’s all right. Right? I mean, so no one thinks something is up.” Natasha nodded. “Yeah, that’s clever. But Rebecca be careful, okay? Especially around that Coach.” “Yeah and if things get uncomfortable, you can always glamour yourself.” Gabrielle added and Rebecca nodded. She looked at Chris and Sebastian. “It’s getting late, guys. Arent you supposed to be on your way since you can go within the blink of an eye?” She asked them. Chris glanced at Natasha and Sebastian surveyed Rebecca. “Nah. We’d rather stay.” He answered for the two of them. “You’ve got room right?” Chris asked and Natasha grinned at him. “Plenty.”

The next morning was so tense for Rebecca. She was in two minds. She felt like she needed to go to school so that no one would suspect her. But she also feltshe needed to stay at home and learn more magic. She needed it more than any other thing. “Relax.” A soothing voice said in her ear and she turned round to see Sebastian smiling at her. “It’s gonna be fine.” She nodded and tried to relax. “Where are the rest?” She asked him because they were the only two that were in the living room. “Chris went to check on Natasha. Tyler’s coming and I’m not sure bout Gabrielle.” Just then Natasha came down, her face shining and happy. “Hey guys.” She said cheerfully. “What’s up with you this morning?” Rebecca asked unsure. “Well, we have to go like everything’s okay, right? I’m just following that.” “You should take after your sister, Becca.” Chris said, his face equally radiant and his blond hair shiny. Rebecca raised an eyebrow at the two of them and Sebastian cleared his throat. Tylerand Gabrielle came down chatting to each other; a sight Rebecca had never seen before. What was wrong with all of them. Did they have to be so damn merry? Rebecca felt like the odd one out. “Shall we be on our way?” Rebecca asked. “Oh no. We cant all go together. It will arouse suspicion.” Gabrielle announced. “Cleverly spoken.” Tyler grinned at her. “Well, how are we going to go then?” Rebecca asked a little irritated at their cheery nature. “Well, you and me can go now. Then Chris and Natasha could go later, leaving Sebastian and Tyler to go together.” She said. “We’ll be on our way now.” She said, smiling at Tyler and giving the others knowing looks. Finally, Rebecca thought. Well, she was glad she was going with Gabrielle.
