Chapter 4

School was over hours ago but Rebecca couldn’t find Sebastian anywhere. She felt like he was hiding something from her but couldn’t really blame him since she as well was keeping a huge secret from him. She had spoken with her sister and Tasha had promised to find out what Chris was up to. Since Tyler was going to have to go somewhere else to transform that night, Rebecca knew she would be going home herself. She could have easily gone to a corner, concentrated and then appear at home, but she didn’t want to risk it. So she got her keys out and entered her car. She spotted a familiar dark-haired guy and red-headed girl talking frantically to each other. It was like they were arguing over something. “Are you sure she didn’t see it?” Tweenie asked Sebastian again. Sebastian shook his head. “I’m not sure. I think she saw it but didn’t understand it.” They were both silent. “I think you’ll have to stay away from her for a few days.” Sebastian looked at her expressionlessly. “What, why?” Tweenie stared at him. “She’s not supposed to find out dummy!” She said hotly. “Well, she already knows something is up. And there is actually something about her too!” Sebastian said, his temper-rising. Tweenie didn’t press any further. She knew that when Sebastian got angry, he could be wild. Charming, though, as people may be, they all have a dark side. “Okay, Sebastian, you could keep seeing her but be careful. Very. It’s dangerous for people to know. You cant trust anyone.” “I trust her.” He said harshly but then took it back. “I’m sorry Tweenie. What I mean is that, I cant explain it, but I just trust her.” He said not understanding what he was even saying. Tweenie nodded like she knew what he was saying. “You mentioned earlier on about something about her. What do you mean?”She asked. Sebastian furrowed his brow. “I just don’t know. I just feel she’s something more. More than human. Like mysterious. I cant explain it. I also met her brother and I felt the same way.” They were silent. Tweenie sighed. “Just, be careful okay? Keep your eyes open. I cant bear losing you. Remember Jackson and Swede?” Sebastian said nothing. He frowned. “What?” Tweenie asked. “Someone’s watching us…” Sebastian said glanced around. He just saw a glimpse of long, thick, black hair entering a taxi. Rebecca couldn’t bear it. She drove off. As soon as she got home, she went to the kitchen and splashed cool water on her face. She kept recapturing the day’s events: Tweenie’s conversation with her, Sebastian’s mysterious tattoo, Chris Vaster and Lauren Brie, Sebastian’s argument with Tweenie. She was agitated and desperately wanted answers. Too bad Natasha was not yet there. She sat down and concentrated on Natasha and only Natasha. A glimpse of Natasha walking to a house flashed through her mind. Then the doorbell rang and Rebecca opened it knowing fully well who it was. “My God, I have a LOT to tell you.” Natasha said and sat on the sofa stretching her legs. Rebecca sat down opposite her looking at her with anticipation. “First of all, I need to eat.” Natasha smirked. She loved keeping her little sister in suspense. Rebecca frowned, closed her eyes and then a small pop was heard. There was a plate of little cookies in the shape of animals in front of Natasha. “Thanks, but it would have been better with the blood bag.” Rebecca glared at her. “It’s spiked with blood. You could at least appreciate it.” “Fine. So, I’m not sure what Chris wants with Lauren but I think he’s going to compel her into doing some things for him.” Natasha paused. Rebecca pressed on. “Well?” “He’s certainly going to bite her,” Rebecca gasped. “But he wouldn’t kill her. He’ll just bite, then make her forget. He’s likely going to use her to get something. But, she may as well die later.” They were silent and Natasha calmly ate another cookie. “Sebastian and Tweenie had a kind of quarrel.” Rebecca’s eyes widened. “Yeah I saw them from the car. Did you get what they were saying?” Natasha smiled. Trust her to intrude on people’s private matters. “Sure. He first showed her something on his forearm,” “A tattoo.” Rebecca interrupted. “Well, I think it is. It was moving. But he quickly covered it and went for class. If it was only a tattoo, he shouldn’t be making a big deal about it.” Natasha looked thoughtful. She glanced at the little sun tattoo on her wrist and shrugged. “Well, when he showed her the arm, he said something and the red-head gasped. They were saying something about a girl that saw it. That must be you. Tweenie, I think is her name, said that people aren’t meant to find out and he should stay away from you.” Another pause. “Sebastian was angry and retorted by saying that he trusts you. He knows there’s something about us.” Natasha said and looked at Rebecca accusingly. “What?” she frowned. “I never told him anything!” Natasha blinked. “I know. He didn’t say anything like that. He just feels it. It’s like he has a sixth sense. Clearly, they both are hiding something terrible.” Rebecca inhaled deeply. “And so are we.” She said and Natasha nodded. “So what’re we gonna do now? Find out?” Natasha laughed. “You bet I will.” Rebecca looked worried. “You don’t think they’re vampires do you?” Natasha shook her head. “Maybe.” Rebecca looked at the time. It was a quarter to 9. She looked outside and saw the moon glistening brightly. “Tyler should be transforming by now.” Rebecca announced. Natasha chuckled. “You mean Tywolf?” Anytime, their brother transformed to a wolf, he first went to the forest to change and would stay there for hours. Then he would find his way to his home, and then lay curled up on the front step till morning when he would have changed back. Natasha went to her room leaving Rebecca to her thoughts. Bored, Rebecca went outside. When she looked into the darkness, a certain movement caught her eye. She wasn’t sure what it was. It looked like black smoke moving and curling in the air. Curious, she moved towards it. But the more she went after it, the more it went away from her. Rebecca hadn’t even noticed that she had wandered into the woods. She lost sight of the black smoke but instead she caught sight of a man in black cloak walking towards her. Rebecca panicked but then cast a disillusionment charm over herself. It helped her in tricky situations. Instead of disappearing, she took the color of where she was staying; like a chameleon. Immediately she cast the spell, she felt like she was air only a little more solid. She stayed put where she was while the man came to where she was. He looked around unsure and then said, “Rebecca?” It sounded like Sebastian but Rebecca wasn’t willing to risk anything. Distant growls erupted and she held herself back from gasping. The guy whipped around to see a big wolf with black eyes and whitish silver fur. The wolf jumped on him and wrestled him to the ground but it seemed the guy was strong because he threw the wolf away with one arm. The wolf fell to the floor but ran towards him aiming to bite him but the guy dodged it. Now, the two were staring at each other, furiously. The moon cast its light on the guy’s face and she saw who it was: Sebastian. She felt his gaze flicker where she was standing and she mistakenly stepped on a broken branch of a tree. Her wound bled freely but she dared not make a noise. “Tyler?” The three of them heard Natasha’s voice from afar. The wolf gave Sebastian one last look and dashed off. Sebastian saw the girl with the long, thick, black hair that had been watching him and Tweenie. He finally walked off. Rebecca exhaled and then removed the spell. She felt her body come back to normal and saw her hand slowly return to its original brownish color. She walked towards the house and saw the wolf on the front step trying to get into the house to have a go at Natasha. Natasha kept the lock firm because she didn’t want Tyler to come near her. Rebecca whistled from afar and the wolf went after the sound but before it came back, Rebecca was safely inside.

The next morning, Rebecca had told Natasha all about her adventure in the woods the previous night. She had healed her bleeding wound when she entered the house but the place was still sore up till then. “So, you think Sebastian saw you?” Natasha asked. Rebecca shrugged. “I don’t know. I mean, he looked like he saw me but if he did; he would have come to me. I’m pretty sure I did the charm well.” Natasha tilted her head. “Did you?” “Of course I did!” Rebecca replied hotly. She shook her head. “Anyway, he’s clearly not a vampire cos he would have run really fast. And he’s not a werewolf cos he didn’t change. Then, the question is, what is he?” Natasha asked. Rebecca was tired of guessing. She was going to ask him point blank and if he tried denying it, she would simply stop talking to him.
