I walk around the kitchen looking for something to eat. I don't know how well this will go, considering I can't eat breakfast right after I wake up. I'd better hurry and try though because I don't want to be late to class. I reach up and grab a box of Frosted Flakes from one of the cubbards. Then I grab a bowl of strawberries from the fridge and plop them into my bowl of cereal. I'm not one of those types of people that pours milk in their cereal, it makes it too soggy in my opinion. I sit my breakfast down on Trevor's kitchen table and walk back over to the fridge to scan it's contents. Lemonade, milk, orange juice, Coca Cola, Pepsi, Sprite, and normal water. Hmm...I reach down to the bottom shelf and grab the pitcher of lemonade before pouring myself a glass. I make my way back over to my breakfast to find that Quinn came in the room and is currently stealing several of my strawberries. He goes to grab another one as I sit down, but I bat his hand away.
"Mine." I hiss.
"Fine, fine," He raises his hands in defeat, "I won't steal any more of them."
"Good." I smile in satisfaction and happily munch on my cereal.
My smile fades and gets replaced by a stomach-knotting feeling of doubt when I realize that he might brush off telling me everything that he planned to. After all, he's acting fairly normal as if nothing had ever happened. Then again, this is Quinn Deupre that I'm talking about. As if sensing my concern his eyebrows arch up ever so slightly while he stares at me.
"You're worried about something. Actually, let me rephrase that, you're always worried, and you have a reason to be. But, I guess I'm asking...What're you so worried about right now?" He continues to stare directly at me.
Is it creepy that it's like he can see into my soul. He looks past the wall that I've built which pushes people away. Although, he did say that he knew how to read me, unlike so many others.
"I just don't want to be late." I lie straight through my teeth.
Okay, that wasn't totally a lie. I mean, I really don't want to be late - but I'm not going to admit that I doubt he's going to explain everything to me. I mean come on, that seems a bit unlikely. Besides, he knows I'm a cynical, pessimistic being who happens to be very sarcastic at times. He just needs to be able to deal with me not trusting him completely. I do trust him a little bit though...But it's not like I'm going to tell him that.
"Kimberly? Are you sure you're alright?" Quinn snaps me out of my trance.
"Huh? Yeah. Like I said, I just don't want to be late." I force a smile and stand up with my now empty cereal bowl.
"I guess you should get going then." Quinn sighs.
He continues to stare me down as I put my bowl in the sink along with my glass of lemonade. I notice that I forgot to put the pitcher of lemonade in the fridge and so I open the cold, stainless steel door and slide it back on the bottom shelf. I don't even have to turn around to know that he's still watching me, but I spin around on my heel anyway.
"Maybe I could search Andi's dorm for clues when I'm there." I try changing the subject.
"That's probably a good idea," Quinn nods in approvement, "Nice thinking ahead."
"Thanks," I give him a small smile, "Hey, I need to go get changed before I go, so don't stalk me."
"You know," He calls after me as I start walking to my temporary room, "It took all of my willpower to not roll my eyes just now."
"I'm sure it did!" I shout back to him and he snorts.
I push open the door to the room where I'm currently staying and walk over to where the bag of my belongings resides. I root through the bag and grumble until I realize that my favorite top was one of the articles of clothing tossed into it. I pull out the black tank top that has speckles and slashes of medium purple and teal on it to make it look like it was painted. I grab a pair of dark blue skinny jeans to go with it and a black jacket. I notice that Trevor managed to shove two pairs of shoes in the bag as well, a pair of white sneakers and plain old purple flats. I have my tall brown boots resting beside the bed, because I was wearing them (thankfully since they're my favorite pair) when I got here. I walk into the bathroom and change into the outfit that I've chosen for today. I add a tiny bit of black eyeliner and mascara before heading out of the bathroom with my old clothes in my hands. I rest them beside the bag because I'll have to get them washed later; and I don't want them with my other clothes as of right now. I stare at the three pairs of shoes that I have to choose from and decide to go with the purple flats. I grab my phone out of the bag and put it in my back pocket for safe keeping. I run my brush (which also came from my house) through my hair before putting it up in a messy ponytail with a few stands framing my face. I walk back out to the kitchen and notice that it's vacant, momentarily panicing until I hear noise coming from the living room. I walk into the living room only to find Quinn and Trevor watching TV. They're both eating bowls of Froot Loops and Trevor is currently pouring milk into his bowl. I turn my gaze to the TV to see what they're watching and notice that it's Fast Five.
"All I'm saying is," Trevor says in between chewing, "You should just tell her."
Huh? Was I right? Was he actually going to go back on his word and keep things from me?
"Trevor," Quinn elbows him in the ribs, causing some cereal to fly out of his bowl, "Great advice. Just make sure that you aren't so loud next time."
"What," Trevor coughs and looks behind him, "Oh, hey Kimberly."
Apparently Trevor hadn't noticed me standing behind the both of them.
"Hi," I wave weakly, "Well, I'd better get going or else I'm going to be late."
My eyes lock onto Quinn's and he snaps his away as if sensing what I was thinking earlier.
"Bye." They both say simultaneously.
I wave to them once again and head over to the front door. I glance at the clock hanging in the hallway and I'm happy to see that I have just enough time to get to campus, go buy a coffee from the cafeteria, and then head to my class. Perfect. I grab Trevor's car keys off the stand by the door and head outside, making sure to close the door behind me. I'm almost to the car when I notice Wyatt leaning against the other side of it. I frown to myself as panic starts to creep over me. Okay, just be calm Kimberly, it's not like he's going to kidnap me. I walk around the car to the side where Wyatt's at and he smiles when he sees me, but not a smile that reaches his eyes, not even close.
"Hello, Kimberly." He greets me.
"Uh," I look around, "Hey Wyatt, what's the occasion?"
"I was wondering if you'd like to get coffee with me." He says.
"I can't," And I don't want to, but I don't say that, "I have class soon."
"I know. I'm suggesting you skip it." His tone sounds more cold now, and I don't exactly feel all warm and fuzzy about it.
"How did you know?" I discreetly distance myself another few inches from him.
"Andi mentioned it when I last talked to her."
No she didn't...Not unless she told him before I overheard them talking, but it doesn't seem likely. Unless...Maybe he was with her before she died...The thought makes me shudder.
"I'm sorry," I try sounding more stern, "But I can't skip my classes."
"You'd only be skipping one. Please?" His tone goes back to normal.
Something flickers in his eyes, almost making me believe that he could be purely innocent.
"Fine," I cross my arms and sigh, "But we're walking."
I'm not getting in a car with him, no thank you. Not while he's on my suspect radar.
"Deal." Wyatt smiles and it seems more genuine now.
I put Trevor's keys in my pocket next to my phone and we start walking in the direction of the nearest coffee shop. I just know I'm going to regret this. Well, either way, I'll be getting coffee today. That's a plus, yet there are so many negatives in this situation.
