I sit by the window in the corner of the room of the buzzing cafe. I frown and repeatedly glance out the window while drinking my freshly brewed coffee. Wyatt occasionally takes a few sips of his own coffee, but he's mainly just staring at me with his arms crossed on the table. I'm also trying to block out the TV, but it's not working very well because it's the news talking about Quinn and how he 'disappeared' from prison.
"Kimberly," Wyatt clears his throat, "I've known that Quinn has been out of prison for awhile now."
I turn my gaze back to him and study him while narrowing my eyes.
"Are you accusing me of something?" I snap.
"No," Wyatt raises his hands, "There's just something that I want to talk about regarding Quinn."
"Oh?" I raise a brow at him.
"Mmm hmm," He takes another sip of his coffee, "I'm not saying that you've seen him, or that you've talked to him, but if you have or plan to then there's something important that you should know."
"And just how exactly would I even see him?"
I sincerely hope he can't tell that I'm panicing ever so slightly. It can't be that obvious, besides, I'm good at pretending to be okay.
"Like I said, I don't know. I'm just strictly warning you." He says.
"Well then," I wave my hands in a sweeping motion, "Warn away."
"There was this girl who was in the same grade as Quinn, Trevor, and Andi. I knew her because I'd talk to her once in awhile, but she wasn't pleasant to be around. I'm glad that I'm two years older than Quinn, that means I didn't have to deal with seeing that girl. Her name is Listette Payton. She has a Fraternal twin sister named Esmee, but she's nice from what I've heard." Wyatt says.
"Where is this going?" I roll my eyes.
"Just be patient and let me explain."
"Fine." I reluctantly agree in hopes of getting out of here as fast as possible.
"Listette was blonde, popular, pretty, etc. However, she was greedy, selfish, and two-faced. I suspect that she's still the same way today. After Quinn graduated he was thrown in jail about a year later, but as you know, that didn't last long. Anyways, before all that when he was still in high school, Listette was obsessed with him. He didn't like her though, which made her severely pissed off, and she ended up dropping out of high school during her senior year. I don't know what happened to her, but she always had dangerous tendencies. The reason I'm telling you this is because witnesses have told me that they saw her hanging out with Heather before she was killed. Someone also claimed to have seen her carrying around a gun downtown, but who knows." Wyatt shrugs.
"Are you saying that you think Listette is linked to Heather's murder?" I ask.
"That's what I'm saying, I also think that she'd have a motive to kill Andi. Perhaps she saw Andi as a threat to getting what she wanted when she heard that Quinn was out, so she killed her."
"You seriously think that Listette would still be obsessed with Quinn?" I frown.
This seems like utter bull crap, he's just trying to push my suspicions onto someone else. Although, he doesn't know that I suspect him of doing anything...I think...
"It's possible." Wyatt says.
"Yeah, well," I stand up with my coffee cup in hand, squeezing it so tightly that I'm afraid my nails will go through it, "Thanks for the coffee, Wyatt."
I walk towards the exit and he doesn't say a word as I throw my coffee cup in the trash and leave. Perhaps I could look into this Listette thing, but it seems highly unlikely. Besides, Wyatt's a suspect in my mind. I pull my phone out of my pocket to check the time, eleven ten. Ugh, I missed my entire first class. I only have two more today, and the first one starts at five with the next one starting right after it at six thirty. I start walking down the street and head back to the house. At least I'll have time to look up Listette, uh, Payton, I think, when I get to Trevor's. I'll also have time to confront Quinn. Perfect. As I approach Trevor's house I notice Quinn sitting on the stairs with a frown etched on his face. When he raises his eyes and he notices me the frown immediately goes away and becomes replaced with something else that I can't seem to register right now.
"Where the hell were you?!" Quinn shouts in a frantic state.
I push past him and walk into the house, throwing Trevor's key on the stand as I walk past it. Quinn follows me into the house and I can practically feel his uneasiness.
"Do you know how we felt when we noticed that Trevor's car was still here?" Quinn.
"Quinn, shut up, you're sounding a bit like my mom right now. And, I never went to my morning class. I wish that I went; I didn't get to though because your brother decided it would be fun for us to get coffee. It's not like I wanted to go with him, but I felt like I had no other choice. The guy's persistent." I say in a rush.
"You went somewhere with Wyatt?" Quinn blinks.
"Yeah," I frown, "Like I said, it's not like I wanted to. The guy creeps me out and frankly he's still number one on my suspect list."
Quinn's uneasiness starts to fade due to my comment and he almost smiles a little bit - almost.
"Well, what did he want?" Quinn asks.
"He actually wanted to warn me about something involving you." I shrug and walk into the living room.
I turn on the TV and boredly flip through the channels as Quinn sits down next to me.
"He did?" Quinn speaks up.
"Yeah. He told me about this chick named Listette who was apparently obsessed with you." I continue to browse through the channels.
"Oh...Yeah. She was uh, a pain to deal with." Quinn shudders.
"Wait," I look at him out of the corner of my eye, "What do you mean was?"
"He didn't tell you that she died awhile ago, did he?" Quinn frowns.
"No," I turn to face Quinn, "He told me that she was seen hanging around Heather Icland before she died. He also told me that she could've been the one to kill Andi, but I didn't believe any of those things for a second. He also said that people saw her downtown carrying around a gun, and yet again, I didn't believe that. The only thing that he told me that seemed genuine was the way he described her personality. And you just confirmed that part by saying that she was a pain."
"Yeah, she was most certainly a pain," Quinn shakes his head, "I just don't see why he lied about all that stuff. Anyone could pull up her obituary online if they really wanted to. Or they could just go talk to her Fraternal twin, Esmee."
"So she actually does have a twin?" I ask.
"Yeah, and Esmee's a lot nicer than Listette ever was." Quinn says.
"Interesting..."
"What's even more interesting is why did Wyatt think that he could set you on a wrong path. I thought Wyatt was supposed to be some kind of genius." Trevor says from behind us, spooking us both.
"How long were you standing there?" I gasp.
"A few minutes now. That's payback for this morning." Trevor grins and comes to sit on the other side of me.
"Jerk." I chuckle.
"Trevor has a point. And like I said, I don't see why he lied." Quinn sighs.
"Well," I select a Criminal Minds rerund, "Wyatt did seem to think that I didn't meet you yet, Quinn. Maybe he thought that he could set me down that path easily since I couldn't go to you for information. The only problem is that I could've found her obituary."
"I'll never understand my brother." Quinn sighs.
"By the way," I lean into Quinn's side and whisper, "I still expect you to tell me what I want to know later after I come back from my classes. The first one starts at five and I probably won't be home until around eight thirty or so once I leave at four. That should give you some time to prepare. Until then, you're stuck with me."
"Poor me." Quinn smirks and looks at me with mischievous eyes.
Oh yes, poor you indeed.
