'Our love is god, let's go get a slushie.'

The glowing neon lights of the far too familiar Snappy Snack Shack seem fo be staring me down. I seem to have a thing for staying in my car for far too long. Eventually, I manage to step out and walk into the brightly decorated store. Grabbing the money from my pocket, I walk to the cashier and give her the money,
'Cherry slushie, please.' I mutter,
'Veronica?' I look up.
'Martha?' I forgot she still existed. She seems to have barely changed since high school.
'Thought you moved away?' I just want to leave, not make conversation.
'Um, yeah. I'm just visiting.'
'Aren't your parents away? I heard they were on a trip to india or something?'
Oops. I've been ignoring their calls and letters for too long.
'I guess.' Guess I'm sleeping in my car tonight, as I don't want to go the whole way back home. 'Thanks, Martha.' I grab the slushie and walk away.
'Nice to see you!'
'Yeah.'
I make it back into the car and suck on the straw.
'I get why he liked these so much.' I smile to myself.

'Hello?'
'Heather?'
'Yeah, that's me. What do you need?'
'I just,' This shouldn't be so terrifying for me. 'I just wanted to know how you found out, you know?'
'Found out what?' What? I swear to fod if she makes me confess this.
'You came outside when I left and-'
'Veronica, what are you talking about?' Great. 'Nobody followed you when you left, we thought it best to leave you alone. What do I know?'
'Oh, nothing' I hang up and stare into the empty space. I'm fucking crazy.
'Well, you're not alone.' My heart stops as he's sitting in my passenger seat.
'Fuck, J.D. I wish you'd stop doing that. Why do I keep seeing you as well as hearing you, and Heather too?'
'Well, maybe you're closer to us than before.' xHe shrugs. 'What can you do?'
'Nothing. I can't do anything anymore.'
