I watched in silence as he made his way to the door, glancing over his shoulder one last time as his hand made contact with the doorknob. Tears made their way out as his brown eyes reached mine.
"Sam," I choked out. "Tell me why, please."
He sighed. "Avya, this isn't easy for me." His eyes darted to the floor. I felt my heart shattering into a million pieces. "I love you, I really do but--"
"No, you don't get to tell me you love me as you're about to walk out." Tears streamed down my face, my voice shaking as I spoke. "You don't just leave the person you love!" My voice rose with my anger. "You don't get to tell me you're letting me go because you love me," I looked to the ground, regaing myself. "I'm not going to stop you from walking out that door, but don't you think for a minute I'll let you back. And don't lie to me. Either you love me or you don't, there is no maybe.
Sam looked at me, eyes glistening over with tears, his breathing heavy and shakey. "Avya.. I.." No words came out of his mouth.
"Just go," I whispered. "Don't embarrass yourself trying to explain."
He opened the door and didn't look back.
"I'm sorry Avya," he whispered.
The door shut softly behind him and I was left there, tears staining my face.
