Ajae

~

My eyes fluttered open to see the ceiling of an unknown room. Small bits of sunlight streamed in through the closed curtains on either side of the four poster bed. I pushed myself up into a sitting position and cringed, my hand flying to the left side of my neck. It was sore and there was a bandage covering a spot on it. Then I remembered what had happened last night, the memories flooding into my mind. That man, that vampire that had bitten me. And there was absolutely nothing I could do about it. Removing my hand from my neck, I narrowed my eyes at both of my palms. I was so weak, I didn't even stand a chance against him. Just like the others...

I gnashed my teeth together. How unfair this world was. I had always wanted to be strong, strong enough so that nothing could ever happen to me again. But look where that landed me.

I let out a growl in anger, jumping out of the bed hastily before my wobbly legs sent me stumbling into a dresser near the bed. A picture frame fell onto its face and I flinched, praying that the glass hadn't shattered. Slowly, I lifted it from the dark wood and noticed that the man in the picture was the one that had attacked me last night. The vampire that had attacked me. It was a black and white photo of him and a girl that looked similar to him. I reset the picture and turned towards the door, marching towards it before I gripped the handle tightly and pulled the door open.

As soon as I got out the door frame, I walked down the hallway and froze. There he stood. The man turned and his cruel eyes set on me.

"You," I breathed, backing away slightly.

"What about me?" He asked with a smirk. My heart beat so fast and hard against my ribcage that I thought it might burst from its confines. I needed to stand my ground, show him that I wasn't afraid of him. Easier said than done as tried to look anywhere in the room but him. To the man that was sleeping on the couch or to the woman that was making something in the kitchen. She was the same one from the photo.

"Are you scared?"

My head snapped to him and gave him a glare, "No," I hissed at him.

"Really? You shouldn't lie so carelessly."

I sent him another glare, my posture rigid as I stood in the middle of the hallway. This guy was a vampire and I was nothing compared to him or what he could do to me. I wouldn't doubt anything more or less from him. He had dead eyes, those of something that killed for fun. But there was also something there that I wanted to be close to. Those desires scared me, that I could be even slightly attracted to this creature that stood in front of me. This creature that wanted my blood.

I felt trapped, like a caged animal thay hadn't seen the light of day in years. I needed to get out of here. Now.

"Kai, that's enough," said the woman from the kitchen. So now I knew his name.

He was distracted for a second talking to the woman and I took this chance to make a break for it, my mind whirring with the possibility of escape. I needed to get out of here. I scrambled as fast as my feet could carry me towards the front door, my feet pounding against the hardwoods and my muscles screaming. But even my fastest wasn't good enough. Just before I could reach the door knob, there was a grip on my shoulders and he was in front of me in a flash, his sinister eyes boring right through me. My eyes widened in shock, there was no way that he could have made it here before me. But then again, he wasn't of this world.

He spun me around and slammed me into the wall next to the door, using my momentum against me. The picture frames around the room rattled with the impact. I cringed as my back connected with the wall. I was so close to getting out, my fingers had just barely brushed against the doorknob. He knocked the wind out of me with how hard he had shoved me back. I looked up into his red eyes as I tried to catch my breath, his fingers digging into my shoulder. I winced, letting out a small cry of pain as he pushed me harder into the wall. I could feel my skin being punctured and small amount of blood seeping out from his fingertips.

"Don't be so rough on her, Kai. She is only a human."

My head snapoed to her who still had her back to the whole scene. By the way that the woman talked I assumed that she was one of them too. Kai let out a displeased grunt and the bone breaking pressure on my shoulders was removed. I rubbed them in pain as he stepped back.

"Why don't you take her home? Take my car," said the woman as she tossed car keys backwards from where she had retrieved them, going back to cooking.

"Oh no, I can walk home, it's only a few blocks away." As much as I hated the coldness of the air outside, it was much better than being stuck in a small enclosed space with him.

Kai gave me a cold stare and grabbed my wrist after he had caught the keys. "Let's go."

He drug me down three flights of staies, his grip never loosening until he reached the silver BMW. I climbed into the car and gave him directions to my apartment when he had told me to tell him in a cold voice. To tell the truth, I was scared to be alone in a car with him but it was thrilling at the same time. We drove in silence and he was way over the speed limit all the way there. The car slowed to a stop in front of my small house that I was renting. I let out a breath that I didn't know I was holding as I quickly vacated the car. The car left the curb as soon as the door closed, neither of us speaking a word to the other.

I threw my keys and phone on the counter and collapsed on the couch, left to my thoughts. I placed a hand on my forehead, not bothering to slip my coat or shoes off. I needed to get the blood out of the collar as soon as possible. But now was not the time as I let out a sigh.

I had a feeling that I would be seeing him again.
