Kat's POV
A silence breaks through us as we walked away from the beach. A few coughs were heard, as we both tried to break the silence. I felt his hand slowly moving away from mine as if avoiding it and we avoid interlocking gazes, knowing it would add up to how awkward we were feeling right now.
"Hey, sorry about...that." He says and takes his hand away from mine, running it through his hair.
"It wasn't your fault." I reply and smile at him as he lightly places his hand on my back.
He says something back but it felt almost like he was miles away. His voice was faint in sound, but I could see his mouth move. I furrow my eyebrows, trying to hear him. Then soon enough my vision started to blur and I blink my eyes rapidly in confusion.
Then suddenly I hear the endless ringing buzz through my ears.
I open my eyes and there I was, in my bed. I look around, making sure I was really there. I think back and I realized it in fact, was all a dream.
The ringing continued and I groan, burying my face in my pillow, trying to block away the sound. Then suddenly I feel something hit my head and I look up, seeing Haymitch standing by my doorway.
"Wake up. Jesus Christ, I've been banging pans together for the past 15 minutes and you still didn't wake up. Hurry, change of plans. You're meeting Peeta this morning and you'll be roaming around the streets of L.A. Paparazzi will surround you then take pictures of you yadda yadda yadda you have a better career." He says, waving his hands as he spoke.
I lay in bed for a few more seconds before finally getting up. I walk to the bathroom groggily and look at myself in the mirror, making sure that what I had just experienced was really a dream.
"It was just a dream, Katniss. Just a dream." I chant repeatedly to myself, tapping my fingers on the table.
"Who the hell are you talking to? Just take a shower and get dressed!" Haymitch shouts through the wooden door. I take one final look at myself and strip down and get in the shower, turning on the water and thinking of the many ways on how we would meet.
---
I finish getting dressed and I walk towards the mirror, making sure my outfit was alright. I wore a dress covered in polka dots that reached mid-thigh and had a garter just right above the waist. I had on an auburn cardigan as an overlay that reached a few inches higher than the dress. The shoes lastly were jet black boots with 2 inch tall heels on them, making it a little hard to walk. Overall, everything was going great.
I grab my bag and shuck my phone inside heading out the door with Haymitch and hop into the car. As the engine started I felt nerves rising through me like waves. They repeatedly hit me and I found myself fumbling with my fingers and taking deep breaths in panic.
But everything will be fine.
I hope.
---
I was practically chewing my nails off as Haymitch stated that we had arrived. We were right in front of your everyday restaurant, not a fancy one I had imagined. But what more I see Peeta seated on a table and I hide myself through the tinted glass of the car in fear.
"Why are you hiding? Get your ass out there." Haymitch says and motions me to open the door. Me being too scared, he opens it for me. I stare at the open car door before me, as if the air was filled with toxic gas that would suffocate and kill me.
He raises his eyebrow at me, looking at me as if I was crazy. He tells me again to get out and I take a deep breath and close my eyes. This is it. I thought. I'm finally going to talk with the boy I've kissed twice properly. I say to myself and brush out my dress and step down the car.
I walk to the entrance of the small café as the cold air brushed past my skin as I entered. I turn around in circles, looking for him. Finally I see him. He was looking down at his phone, busily typing away. I take one last breath before walking towards the table where he was seated. He looks at me for a second, before looking back down at his phone.
"Hi." I say and sit down on the opposite side of the table. He doesn't look up and just nods, continuing to use his phone.
I stare at him silently, not knowing what to do next. I could feel the tension in the air rising up fast. I look down and fumble with my fingers, trying to find something to do.
"Hello. May I take your order?" A waitress comes with a notepad in her hands as she takes out the pencil that was behind her ear, and looks at me. Before I could pick up the menu she gasps.
"Oh my gosh. Y-you're Katniss. K-katniss Everdeen. I love you. I-I'm sorry if I'm acting this way I-I'm just so starstruck. C-can I have a p-picture?" She asks stuttering at almost each word and I laugh at how shy she was and nod. She smiles brightly and hands me her phone. I take it and put it on the camera and smile with her, her smile gleaming and wide. She mutters a thank you then coughs, before taking out her notepad once again.
"So, may I take your order?" She asks, but before I could answer, Peeta interrupts.
"We'll just have two bottles of coke, thanks." He says and motions her to leave and she does.
Another silence emerges between us and I fakely cough, trying to break it, sadly the tension only rose higher. Then I come up with an idea.
"Look, you probably don't remember me but-" I say but he cuts me off.
"Look, I didn't come here to talk to you. I don't care about your prissy life and all your stupid fans. I'm here for the sake of business and business only." He says his jaw slightly clenching.
"Now come on, let's leave this crappy place and act like a stupid couple." He says harshly and stands up.
"What about the coke?" I ask, trying to find a way to respond to his outrage but I answer in the most stupid way possible.
"Who cares about the damn coke. Come on, let's go. I have other places to be that are more important than this." He says and pulls on my wrist hard, which left me surprised.
He grabs my hand forcefully and we walk out the café and as if we were followed, people started following us everywhere with gigantic professional cameras. The flashes mixed with the broad daylight as my eyes involuntarily squinted at the bright lights.
His grip around my hand was tight, as if trying to break it. I flinch a few times at the tightness of his grip but I try my best not to show it on my face, knowing it would lead to speculation. He kept his gaze away from me and just stared at the path in front of us.
This isn't how I thought it would be.
Hey guys I hope you all liked the chapter.
So, Peeta isn't as good as we thought he was. Does Peeta remember Katniss? The next chapter will be in Peeta's POV.
Let us all celebrate because my friend wrote this for me flowercrown_lashton. I've been having writer's block so I asked her to write this. Thanks so much Sammy! We also have a book together but it's a Luke Hemmings fanfic.
Please vote and comment.
