Chapter 5

Jade

I never thought I could dream a nice dream about Cam. But all it took was one night with him. The way he sleeps calms me. His slow light breathing, and the way he pulled me closer when I got cold or when my dreams even for a second became nightmares I felt his grip around me tighten ever so slightly.

When I woke up around six thirty that morning, cam was still there, he smiled and let me up. "I suppose I should sneak you out before my dad wakes up huh?" I nodded, I didn't really wanna meet his dad. I hadn't even planned to stay the night. If I had I would have worn different pajamas. Not the skimpy black silk nightgown i'm in.

I pull my robe on tight and we get up and sneak downstairs. I blush holding onto his shoulder and I yawn softly. We walk outside without a sound and he takes my hand softly. "Jade... I'm really glad you came over, it's been a long time since I could trust someone, and actually sleep well." I smile softly "me too... maybe now the dreams won't be so bad" "and if they are?" He looks at me a little worried, I smile. "then I guess i'll be coming over a lot"

He giggles. "i'd like that, but maybe instead, I could come over, so I don't gotta worry about my dad." I blush a little and push my long dark hair behind my ear and I look at my feet awkwardly for a second. Then at him "I think that would be better too." I hug him gently and awkwardly and we part ways.

Cam

I get dressed and cheerfully eat something for breakfast. I'm about to grab my backpack when I hear a car honk outside. I walk outside expecting my dad to tell me to hurry up, but it's Jade. She smiles at me. "come on, i'll give you a ride to school, it's the least I can do." I smile and climb in the car.

We drive to Lexi's house and pick her up. When she climbs in the back seat she looks from me to Jade a few times then smiles and asks. "well... what do we have here?" Jade laughs and takes a drink of her monster before pulling onto the road. "he's my next door neighbor, and friend, so, I thought i'd be nice and give him a ride." Lexi giggles "sure... uh huh I believe you."

Her head pops between us and she looks at me. "so tell me what's really going on." Jade laughs, "Lexi, come on, you're being ridiculous." Lexi stares at me and I blush a little, embarrassed. "um... i'm not sure what you're expecting to get out of me," "oh it's not me that wants something out of you." She gives a mischievous smirk and sits back. "Alright, i'll find out eventually."

We pull into school and I glance at Jade. She smiles and gets out of the car. Lexi and I follow. At the doors we are greeted by Gavin. He wraps his arm around Jade to block her from the jocks. He seems a little overbearingly protective. I feel the fire of jealousy in the pit of my gut and grit my teeth looking down as I walk. We make it to the lockers before anyone can do anything.

Jade pulls me aside for a moment and sighs. "Hey, I know, what you think about Gavin but, it's like I told you yesterday, i'm not with him." I nod glumly and we all go our separate ways.

At lunch Gavin and Lexi have to stay after class for a test. So Jade and I are left to our own devices. I walk to Jade's locker and find her before the jocks do. She sighs in relief and looks up at me. "Thanks," "for what?" she nods towards the waiting jocks, I get an idea and I whisper in her ear, "follow my lead, and act natural." She nods, I wrap my arm around her waist and we walk past the jocks. They stare slightly dumbfounded and walk away.

Once we're at the table I let her go and we sit down. She blushes and fidgets with her hair, I pull a couple monsters out of my bag and put them in front of her. "Here, you need to calm down a little," "how can I? I'm beaten up and bullied everyday, even if I'm safe for now, they'll just get me later." She sips the monster and pulls out a bag of chips. "No they wont, I wont let them" "why?" she looks at me, seeing right into my heart. "Because I don't wanna see you get hurt." she sighs, "How are you gonna stop them?" I smile "well... I don't plan to stop them exactly, just make it impossible for them to get near you."

For the rest of the day, I race from my class to hers and I walk her to her locker and class. I tell Gavin about it and Lexi. They agree to help me with the classes I can't get to fast enough. The last class we all have together. I race to her class but Gavin beats me to it. I feel the fire in my stomach again. The way he touches her, it makes me feel protective and jealous. But why? I know they're not dating but why do I feel this way?
