It's been five months since I've left my small town home in Texas. I lived in New Odessa. It used to be a small extension Odessa, before Primatech blew up a year ago. I unfortunately found out that i was an evo myself that day.
It started out the most normal day it could get. There were tourists all over the streets making their way to the Primatech warehouse to watch humans and evos unite.
I made my way down main street wearing my evo support shirt. All the small shops were boarded up and closed down main street in fear of evos and it's supporters. I had even seen some of my neighbors walking down the street walking down the street holding anti-evo sign proclaiming that evos aren't children of God and are demons. My whole town was super catholic and hated all things against the bible.
I had made it to the warehouse without being criticized. I was blown away at how many evos were there. Kids were in front of the ones who showed off theirs and were in awe.
I was watching a man making it snow in hot desert heat, when someone bumped into me. I felt a strong electric pulse go through me.
"Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry," the woman said turning around. She looked familiar and she looked like she was over nine months pregnant.
"Claire Bennet?" I asked.
"That's me," she said, out of breath.
"You are such an inspiration to me," I said excitedly.
"Do you have powers?" She asked, saddened and confused for some odd reason.
"No, I had some self issues and when you did something as crazy as exposing your power, I figured I could expose a part of me." She smiled in relief.
"Hey look I, uh, gotta go find someone. Nice meeting you Emma." She left running as fast as she could with her belly away from the warehouse. How did she know my name? I ignored it and went walking along a path towards the auditorium for a speech.
Halfway there, a strange an almost familiar guy caught my eye. He had dark brown hair and was wearing a dark red shirt. His skin was light brown and he looked around my age, but around here it was hard to tell. He winked at me and there was a bright white flash followed by a loud boom. After that there was just darkness.A high pitched sound rang in my ears along the cries of people and distant sirens. I smelled the fresh scent of death and fire. I burned my throat and lungs. I opened my eyes and checked for any injuries. I felt pain burn in any place possible. Blood was all over my body and in my throat. I looked down at my shirt that had almost charged away and showed major internal bleeding along with ribs piercing out of my skin and deep cuts pouring with dark blood. The bleeding went away fast, but the ribs remained out. I pushed them into place, fighting back the pain.
Next I looked down at my legs. I was wearing shorts and my legs were so deformed and burned off it looked like it would be better it they were just cut off. That started changing in a matter of seconds. The skin healed while I popped my bones back into place.
I stood up examining myself one more time. Everything looked okay. I check my surrounding, not fully understanding what had happened earlier. Now I could see it. Bodies were all over the place along with small fires. Some were just fine and were walking to get help. I did the same.
Along the way I heard a woman struggling to get out from underneath rubble. I went over and tried to help her.
"No I don't need help," she said and stopped trying move the rubble. I ignored her request and went over to where her head was and grabbed her arms. I felt a light, yet strong, pulse of electricity go through me. I pulled her out and helped her dust herself off. "How did you survive that?" she asked confused.
"I, uh, I don't know," I said, looking at my hands that were just moment ago burned off.
"Look, if I were you, I'd get out of here fast before officials show up," she said looking around as if she was looking for someone. There was only a few ambulances on the other side of the destruction.
I listened to the woman and started walking down a straightish path back home. I didn't even look back because I knew everything was going to change for evos and I was one of them now.
