10 years later
„Mommy, look what I can." Little boy squealed and jumped on the small trampoline that he got from Jonathan and my mom. It was his third birthday today and party was held in our backyard. Aiden and I were amazed when we first saw this house. We thought it seemed perfect for our family that at the time consisted of three members: Aiden, our son Matthew and me. Now we were blessed with another child, our princess Avery. She was spitting image of her father, with her deep blue eyes and dark hair.
„That's great, son, I'm very proud." Aiden said, bringing huge cake that Sarah and I baked yesterday. We invited family, some of our college friends and of course, Matthew's friends from kindergarden. Thankfully, our yard was big enough and perfect for events like this. Aiden put the cake on the table and everyone gathered around. Matthew was so happy that everyone was with him today, I could see it in his eyes. Everybody sang ''happy birthday'' song and he closed his eyes shut and made a wish, blowing the candles. My mom, Sarah and I cut the cake and gave it to the little kids who were waiting patiently on their seats. It was evening already and it was evident they were exhausted with all running around, jumping and playing.
Men were talking among themselves but still kept an eye on the children. I sat for a minute, stealing a moment for myself, because my feet were killing me. My mom held Avery while Sarah was making funny expressions at her. She giggled loudly making me warm inside. I looked at Aiden, my husband, and sighed contently. I really was a lucky girl. He caught me staring at him and winked, promising me an exciting night, for only two of us. I chuckled, he was really incorrigible.
Not far away from me, under the tree, sat Matthew and Natalie, Sarah and Blake's daughter. She was their little treasure and I loved her like she was my own. They were whispering something and smiling at each other. I could see that Blake was looking at them, frowning a little. That was so typical of him, he was extremely protective of his two ladies. Aiden saw what he was gazing at and laughed loudly, teasing him. Well, Natalie will indeed be a heartbreaker when she grows up with her porcelain skin and curly hair.
''Honey, everything went according the plan, don't you think?'' my mom asked, approaching me, with a plate full of Matthew's favorite cake. She didn't change much during these past ten years. Her hair got some silver streaks and wrinkles around eyes and lips were more visible, but that was it. She and Jonathan were great grandparents and helped us a lot.
''Yes and I couldn't be happier now. But still, it's funny how time flies right? It seems like it was yesterday when Aiden and Jonathan moved in with us.''
''Oh you're right. Remember how you and Aiden used to argue all the time? We didn't know what to do with the two of you. And look at you now, happily married with two kids.'' I could swear I saw tears in her eyes and my own filled too.
''Yeah, life's full of miracles.''
