Lyle had originally planned to just go ahead and get the photo shoot over with right there in the yard. After all, the journalist from the paper promised that they only needed one quick head shot. But now that he knew the photographer assigned to him was Ashlyn, he couldn’t help but invite her inside.
Lyle and Ashlyn rarely ever spoke in high school, but they always seemed to have this ongoing conversation happening with their eyes. Lyle couldn’t seem to take his eyes off Ashlyn. Even when he had had a girlfriend.
She was the most beautiful girl at Harland High and none of the other girls looked like her. She had this thick, jet black hair that fell all around her in big curls. Today, she had straightened her curls out, something he had never seen her do, but he was loving that, too. Her skin was the color of caramel and it seemed so smooth, even though he never touched it. But in addition to her being beautiful, she was a mystery. Lyle never understand why she’d always like eyes with him but never say anything like the other girls. And for some reason, he was always around another girl or too nervous to speak to her. He wasn’t sure why he felt that way all those years, but today, he planned on changing that. He was beginning to feel like he knew why he had come back to Harland after all.
