The Harland Press.
Sure, it was the official town newspaper, but the way one of the “journalists” had just called him out of the blue to do a story on him coming back to town made it seem like way more of a gossip column. He never liked all the press in college and he certainly didn’t like it coming back home.
Lyle sat on the front porch with nothing in his hands but the glass of sweet tea he had just fixed for himself. It was a hot day for late July and he certainly didn’t feel like doing an outdoor photo shoot, no matter how short it was supposed to be.
The journalist that had called him and told him to look out for one of the photographers from Harland Hearts Photography Studio. Lyle couldn’t help but wonder, had someone actually named their business “Harland Hearts Photography Studio?” He was trying not to be so cynical, but day after day, this town was seeming to become more and more of a joke.
As Lyle waited, finally, a small blue Honda rolled up the long, winding driveway toward the Cambridge family household. Lyle sat down his glass and made his way down the walkway, in an effort to get this photo shoot over with as soon as possible.
The car door opened, and as soon as the photographer stepped out, the dynamics of the entire moment changed. The Harland Hearts photographer wasn’t just any photographer...it was Ashlyn Eberhart.
