The drive back to work couldn’t have been longer. Since Ashlyn had spent longer at Lyle’s than expected, there was only an hour left before her shift would end.
Ashlyn had been trying for nearly a year to switch to full time so she could get more hours, but Abigail always ignored her request, even when Ashlyn reminded her that she was trying to take care of both she and her grandmother.
Reluctantly, Ashlyn drug herself out of her car and made her way inside, where the Harland Photograph’s Club luncheon was still going on. For the life of Ashlyn, she couldn’t figure out why they always sent her away during these club meetings and why she wasn’t allowed to come. Even though she wasn’t a staff photographer, she was just as much of a photographer as everyone else in the club.
Once again, Ashlyn shrug her shoulders and positioned herself back at the receptionist desk. She turned on her personal laptop (that was she forced to use because Abigail was too cheap to buy a company computer) and to her surprise, she had received an e-mail from Melanie at the Press that said only a few words, but enough words to throw her for a serious loop:
“Ashlyn! The photographs look great. You have a wonderful eye. If you ever want to come work for the Harland Press, we’d love to have you ;)”
