Every child, at the time of their birth receives a stone.
This stone was special. It would let out a special glow when you meet someone who'd hold a special place in your heart.
Many called it the soul stone.
Others begged to differ. But all agreed that the stone has never been wrong.
As a kid, Regina believed of having her stone turn bright pink when she began to have a crush on Bobbie Williams who lived next door.
As she grew older, she thought it might turn deep red for the love she had for Mike, his hair, his physique.
As she turned into an adult and began to date a brunette named Tom, she figured it might turn green as her heart raged with envy every time he looked at someone else.
As she matured, she figured that it might as well turn baby blue to match David's eyes which had gotten her captivated.
Turns out that baby blue eyed blond man had his stone turn bright yellow when he proposed to her.
Shows how much she had lit up his world.
That's what he told her he felt and she loved it. Just as she believed that she did for him and accepted his proposal.
They get married and are happy together. Regina's stone never glowed but she was content just looking at David's now bright yellow stone.
They believed it glew for the both of them.
Until the stone stopped glowing.
David had passed away. Dead on impact.
Regina was left alone. His stone now jet black, an indicator that he's no more.
Was it odd that she took joy in the fact that her stone hadn't turned grey with melonchaly yet?
It meant she still had a chance. Maybe she'd find love again.
A few years later, Regina was at the local school, looking at the happy children playing around.
A young girl trying to help a kitty stuck in the tree had caught her attention. The kid stretched out her fingers, trying and almost reaching that white ball of fur but missed it.
That didn't seem to deter her. The little girl shrugged and tried to climb the tree.
Regina went and helped the girl by lifting her up. The kid caught the kitten and thanked her for her help.
"It's no problem dearie. Say, is this cutie yours?"
"Sure is! Little Betsy is all I have left of my parents and I can't lose her!" The child replied.
The older one held a hand to her heart, "oh dear. You're an orphan? At such young age!"
"Age makes no difference for a loss does it Miss? I just hope I do get a loving ma soon and not end up like Georgie."
"What happened to Georgie?" She asked, curious as to what this beautiful, polite young orphan had to tell.
"He was kicked out cuz he was too old, is what they say. He was just sixteen."
"And how old are you sweetie?"
"I'm seven! Been here for three years now. Doesn't mean I like it much."
Regina nodded. "Lemme tell you something. I too was an orphan like you when I was born. Didn't have parents, wasn't close to any parent I met later on either."
The child looked at her confused.
"Then I grew up and was left out. Had to fend for myself. God knows how I did that but somehow I did. Got myself a wonderful husband too."
"You have children Miss?" The child interrupted.
Regina shook her head, "Am Afraid not dear. My man was taken before we could even become parents."
"That a shame. You seem nice."
"That so?" A thoughtful look passed over her face.
Sure enough, after meeting young Emily for the rest of the week, Regina found herself enamoured by the child and decided to take her in.
And that's when the stone decided to glow. Purple. A mixture of red and blue. Love and pride for the child that is now hers.
Seems like the stone is right even now.
