For Delilah :) sorry for the wait lovely!

“Delilah!” Jane wheedles. “Please! Please, please, please will you go down the street for me!”

You turn to your best friend and roommate with a raised brow. “C’mon, Jane. I need to finish this essay.”

“But it’s my time of the month and I need chocolate and tampons and movies and Dannie isn’t here.” Jane pouts.

Dannie is Jane’s boyfriend, and he’s currently in Perth visiting family.

You sigh and get to your feet, placing your pen on the table and grabbing your phone and wallet. “I won’t be long.”

“Thank you, Delilah!” Jane squeals, then clutches her abdomen and groans in pain. “Agh, you’re a lifesaver.”

“Yeah, yeah. Tell me something I don’t know.” You joke and walk out the door of your apartment.

It’s a beautiful day. As cliché as it sounds: the sky is blue, the sun is warm and the birds are singing in the few trees that are scattered around Sydney’s town centre.

You smile blissfully to yourself as you admire the day, revel in the sun kissing your bare shoulders and hum softly to a tune you can’t identify.

You get slightly distracted window shopping in small boutiques and looking wistfully over at the tables of courtyard cafés.

Suddenly, you hear a raucous juxtaposition of music and screaming girls and you turn your head from the pretty dress in the window and over to the big, green Hyde Park over the street.

A huge crowd of teenage girls in colourful clothes blocks your view of whoever the artist is, so you shrug, sigh and head towards the supermarket.

Despite knowing that Jane will be fussy that you took so long when you get back, you’re reluctant to return to your essay.

The day is so nice and warm, and all you want to do is sit outside in the garden and enjoy the sunshine.

You quickly purchase all the necessary items for Jane, namely: chocolate, tampons, a few magazines and a few funny movies from the CHEAP section.

You decide to forgo the ice cream, knowing you have some in the freezer, and it will only melt in the sun.

Shooting a grateful smile at the cashier, you hurry outside and across the road to the edge of the park to a small bench, perched halfway in shade and sunshine.

You settle down on the half covered in golden light and put the groceries in the shade.

Leaning back, you tilt your head to the sky, close your eyes and smile.

All thoughts of Jane and your essay filter out of your head.

Vaguely, you wonder where the music playing before has gone, and why the screams have stopped.

But you’re too relaxed to think too much of it.

You start humming to yourself, not recognising the tune.

“That’s our song.”

The voice is unfamiliar…and very close to your face.

Your eyes fly open and you scramble back with a shriek at the face very near to yours.

The face morphs from a small smile to embarrassment.

“Sorry! I’m sorry!” He says. “I didn’t mean to startle you.”

Breathing hard, you finally take in what the boy looks like.

He’s ridiculously cute, all curly hair and biceps (nicely shown off by his muscle tank).

His hazel eyes sparkle as he smiles at you, two dimples appearing in his cheeks.

You blush. “It’s ok.”

He holds out a hand for you to shake and you take it, letting his fingers overlap yours and instantly you feel as ease with this handsome stranger.

“I’m Delilah.” You say, with a shy smile.

“Ashton.” He says, his smile giving way to a wide grin.

“Hi.” You say, dumbly after a short silence.

Ashton chuckles and you blush again.

“Sorry! I’m socially awkward.” You hide your face with your hands.

Still laughing, Ashton pulls them away. “Wanna know something? So am I.”

“Somehow, I can believe that.” You tease, reminding him of how he just snuck up on you.

Now it’s his turn to flush. He rubs the back of his neck sheepishly. “Yeah, uh, sorry?”

You laugh and pick up your bag. “It’s ok. I’d better get going, but it was nice to meet you, Ashton.”

“Hey, um, Delilah.” Ashton’s voice stops you and you turn back to him.

“Yeah?”

“Did you wanna…maybe…grab a milkshake or something?”

You feel your spirits lift. “My best friend is actually at home sick at the moment, but maybe tomorrow if you’re free?”

“I’m sure I can fit you into my schedule.” Ashton teases, as you scribble your number on his (very muscular and pleasing to the eye) arm.

He winks at you one last time.

“Call me maybe!” You wave as you depart.

“See you later, Delilah!”

You hurried back to Jane with a wide grin on your face, ready to spill everything.
