For Allie :) Again; sorry for the lateness in uploading! Hope it lives up to expectations!! x

It’s the call that no one ever wants to receive.

“Miss? Miss, are you there?”

Your breath somehow finds it’s way back into your throat and you stumble over the words of your reply. “Yes. Yes I am, sorry. It was…just a shock.”

“I know.” The voice on the other end of the phone is sympathetic. “I’m very sorry, Miss.”

Tears fill your eyes and voice, swelling in your throat. “What hospital are you again?”

“The Royal Sydney Hospital, Miss.”

“I’ll be right there, thank you for calling me.”

You hang up the phone with trembling hands and sink to the floor in shock.

Ashton. Car crash. Hospital. Injured. Coma. Miss. Miss? Miss!

Ashton. Ashton! ASHTON!

You force your eyes open and leap into action, pulling one of Ashton’s big hoodies over your head, slipping on your Converse and grabbing your keys, wallet and phone and racing out the door to your car.

As you start driving, you quickly dial another familiar number and put the phone on speaker dumping it in your lap as it buzzes.

“Allie!” Michael’s voice calls cheerfully through the speaker. “What’s up?”

You’re quiet for a moment, trying to stop the tears still slipping down your face and to control your breathing to get the words out.

“Allie?” This time Michael’s voice is more hesitant. “What’s wrong?”

“Ashton…” You choke out, turning into the hospital carpark. “Mike, I just got a call from…from the hospital. Ashton’s been in a car crash and he’s in a coma.”

There was a beat of silence as you struggled with your tears and pressed the phone to your ear, climbing out of the car.

Then Michael erupted in questions, his tone frantic.

“He’s at the Royal Sydney.” You say, wiping you eyes. “I’m gonna go see him now. Please come here…I can’t do this alone.”

You hang up and almost run into the hospital, blurting out Ashton’s name and information to the nurse’s desk.

“I’m sorry, dear. But we can’t give out information to anyone except family.” The prim-faced nurse states as she taps away at her computer.

“I’m his girlfriend!” You exclaim, tears stinging your eyes.

“And so were at least four other girls already here this morning.” She says, raising an eyebrow. “I’m sorry.”

“I really am!” You spit. “My name is Allie. I’m on his next of kin, the hospital called me!”

With a heavy sigh, the nurse pulls something up on her computer and taps on the keys.

Seconds later, her face changes to one of wide, sympathetic eyes. “I’m so sorry, Allie.”

You merely nod as she gives you directions and you bolt up to Ashton’s room.

You can’t contain the tears as you catch sight of your boyfriend.

He’s a tall, muscular guy, but he looks so small and frail in that hospital bed. Vulnerable.

Clenching a fist and biting down on it, you take the chair by his bed, take his limp hand in your free one and wait.

*

You’re pacing.

You’re restless, unable to stay still and aching for the reassurance of Ashton’s strong arms and warm eyes.

“Sit down, Allie.” Luke suggests, his voice hoarse. “You’ll only tire yourself out.”

“I can’t.” You reply, feverishly. “I can’t sit still. Not now.”

Oh God. Your chest aches.

You’ve never been so in love, so dependent on someone for your happiness. But now Ashton’s lying in a hospital bed and you’re breaking into pieces.

“He’ll be ok, Allie.” Calum says, softly.

“You don’t know that!” You spit out, whipping around to face the three tired boys sitting against the wall. “He is everything to me! I love Ashton so much and I can’t live without him! This is killing me! I don’t…I can’t…oh, God. I’m so sorry!”

Suddenly, you break down into sobs, pressing your palms against your eyes. You hear the boys exclaim and sigh quietly, but before they can move, a familiar voice breaks through.

“Allie, don’t cry.” Ashton’s voice is dry and raspy, but it’s still his.

You whip around in shock to see Ashton blinking at you confusedly.

“Ash.” You whisper and run to him.

“We’ll be outside.” You hear the boys mumble and the door slams, leaving the two of you alone in his hospital room.

“Allie, what happened?” Ashton asks, sounding childlike. “Why are you crying?”

He strokes your cheek with his knuckles, drying your tears.

You laugh wetly. “You were in a car accident. You’ve been in a coma for hours.”

Ashton purses his lips. “That’s three hours of my life without seeing your beautiful smile.”

You blush. “Ash!”

He chuckles and you lean down to kiss him.

“I’m okay.” He promises against your lips. “I’m wonderful. I love you, Allie.”

“I love you too.”
