For Cassy-sorry for the lateness lovely, I rewrote this like five times haha

“How dare she!” You snap, slamming your phone off and throwing it across the room in anger. “She doesn’t know anything!”

“Who doesn’t, Cassy?” Luke asked, barely glancing up from the video game he was immersed in.

“Mina! She’s saying stupid stuff about how I’ve changed and how you’re not good for me and blah, blah, blah.” You roll your eyes.

Luke chuckles. Chuckles.

“Why are you laughing?” You demand, glaring at your boyfriend. “It’s not funny! Mina is my best friend, I can’t believe she’d say those things!”

“Calm down.” Luke says. “I’m laughing because it’s so obviously not true and she’s just jealous.”

“She is not jealous!” You shout. “She’s being a horrible friend!”

“Ok, Cassy.” Luke says, placating you, and returns to his video game.

“You could be a little more helpful in this situation, Luke.”

“What do you want me to say? If I bitch out your friend, you’ll get mad. If I don’t, you’ll get mad. She’s not my friend, she’s only saying those things to hurt you and she’s only jealous. Stop getting so riled up over nothing, Cassy.”

“Three years of friendship isn’t ‘nothing’!” You spit. “I don’t expect you to understand! Boys are so stupid about these things!”

“My friends are still my friends!”

You jerk back, hurt by his statement.

Luke’s eyes close and he rubs a hand over his face. “Cassy, you know I didn’t mean it like that.”

“Sure. Whatever. At least you have friends, right?” You storm upstairs, tears stinging your eyes and slam the bedroom door loudly to make sure he gets the ‘back-off’ message.

And then you let yourself cry.

But the tears don’t come.

You’re more annoyed than sad.

You sulk in the bedroom for nearly an hour, alternating between fiddling with your hair, glaring at photos of you and Luke and you and Mina and trying to read a book.

Finally, you have to admit that you may have overreacted slightly.

Luke was only being Luke, and truly had no idea of how a girl’s mind worked.

And Mina…well. Mina would get over it. She always did.

But none of this was Luke’s fault and you had just gotten crabby at him.

And now you felt bad about it.

Finally, you sigh, shove away your pride and fix your hair before venturing out of the bedroom and stand at the top of the stairs.

The house is surprisingly quiet.

Luke’s video game isn’t shouting its nonsensical sounds and he isn’t yelling at the TV.

Hm.

You walk downstairs to the living room.

It’s empty, the television blank and the controller abandoned on the coffee table.

Pursing your lips, you pick up the controller to put it away (you dislike it when Luke leaves things lying around and he knows it).

But you stop when you see a pink sticky note attached.

Where do I make you dinner?

Easy, the kitchen.

Slightly confused, you put the controller down, take the note and go into the kitchen. It, too, is empty. But there’s a small cupcake with chocolate frosting and another sticky note.

As you nibble the cupcake, you read the next note.

Where would we put the bed of our dog?

You have to think, this particular discussion having taken place a week ago.

The laundry.

You collect this note and go into the laundry.

On the floor lies another sticky note.

Where do I pick you flowers?

“The florist.” You snigger, but open the laundry door into the garden anyway.

Then you gasp.

There’s a picnic blanket lying on the sun-drenched grass, a platter of chocolate frosted cupcakes sitting in the middle and Luke sitting to one side giving you his adorable apologetic smile.

The cupcakes were decorated with one letter each and spelled out I’M SORRY.

“You’re completely forgiven!” You say and rush over to Luke, kneeling down to kiss his lips sweetly.

“I’m sorry, Cassy.” Luke says. “I honestly didn’t mean that to come out the way it sounded.”

“Don’t worry about it.” You reply. “I’m sorry too. Now can we have some cupcakes?”

You end the afternoon with your mouths covered in chocolate, but smiling bigger than you ever have around Mina.

Yeah, your boyfriend truly made it up to you this time.
