Chapter Four

I didnt see Maybrie for two days after that. I gradually got stronger and was able to go back to carrying on with my normal life. The fever and pain was gone, like it had never happened. I woke up to my alarm clock buzzing and hit the snooze button. I looked at the clock and sighed. School was never one of my top things i loved to do and im sure i have a ton of homework to catch up on from missing due to my illness. I got out of bed and slid on a pair of skinny jeans and a black, fitting tank top. Thank god for no school dress codes, I thought, taking my waist length hair out of the ponytail. Then i brushed my teeth and combed my hair. I jumped when I heard a light knocking on my door. Mom peeked her head in the room and smiled at me.

"Good morning, honey. Better hurry, the bus will be here any minute." I stifled a sigh and grabbed my bag.

"Mom, im old enough to drive." Mom nodded and looked at her feet.

"I know honey, i just worry about you. I dont want anything to happen to you." I slowly grabbed mom and hugged her.

"I know mom, but Maybries gone. We cant bring her back. You have to move on and let me drive again. You have to stop refeering everything i do to May." I whispered. Mom looked up and nodded her head again.

"Ok." She sighed.

I got in the truck and started it. The engined whined but then roared to life. I gripped the steering wheel and breathed in deeply. I slowly hit the gas and pulled out onto the highway. I held my breathe as the truck gradually gained speed. I hadnt drove since the accident, but being behind the wheel gave me confidence. I looked at the gas tank and sighed. I woyld have to get gas before school. I pulled into Cisco,s and parked behind a red catilac. When the truck was filled i went in and paid for it and noticed two guys looking at my truck. I walked out the door and got in my truck. Suddenly the tall man gasped and ran to my truck, catching the door as i shut it.

"What do you know?" he demanded.

"What?" i said, startled. The man grabbed my arm and drug me out of my truck.

"You! I knew it was you! You saw." Just then the manager came out and told the man if he didnt release me he was calling the cops. The man gritted his teeth but let go.

"I will find you again." he threatened before stomping away. I jumped in the truck and gased it. I had to get out of here.

I drove to school and spent the rest of the day with thoughts clouding my mind. I didnt know who the man was but i had a feeling he was dangerous. When i pulled in the driveway after school i saw my sister standing in the window of my room. I gasped and ran to the front door, slamming it shut as I ran through.

"Massie? Is that you honey?" mom called from the kitchen. I shouted yes and quickly ran upstairs. I swung open the door to my room and froze. Maybrie slowly turned away from the window to face me. She took a step towards me and opened her pale mouth to speak.

" I know why I came back."
