Chapter 19 Tragedy

In a few days we were just walking around. We left Kohana and wrote a letter to Temari and Kankuro telling them we don't know when we're coming back to Suna.

I looked up seeing the bright sun through the tall leafy trees.

"So where are we heading?" I asked. I ask everyday that same question and I always get the same answer.

"No where," he answered softly as if breathing out the words. He looked at me his red hair swaying a bit from the slight breeze. I looked at him and then around us. I really loved the smell here. It smelt like wet trees but then with fresh bread. It was weird. I felt arms slip around me. I looked at Gaara and he was resting his head on my shoulder.

"Wanna take a small rest from walking?" He asked. I nodded silently and smiled. He pecked a kiss on my cheek and got out picnic blanket. He sat down and signed and looked at me with his green eyes. I smiled and sat down beside him. He looked at me and then at the sun covered by the trees. We sat there in silence listening to the birds chirp happily. We also happened to catch a scene of two birds fighting and another bird chirping worriedly as if. One of the birds killed the other and the third bird chirped loudly and as if... Painfully. And then flew away. Me and Gaara exchanged looks a little confused. I got up suddenly in instinct and followed the third bird. Gaara's gaze followed me.

"Where are you going!?" He yelled. I didn't hear him. I found the bird on a growing tree with a small broken down nest. I kneeled down flinching a bit at the spikey and pokey plants.

"Hey little birdy," I cooed softly. The bird looked at me with a hurt expression.

"You don't need anyone like them, if they fight over you and don't let you choose... Then ... Well anyway! Everyone gets hurt and what happened doesn't seem like the one option okay with getting hurt... Was the other birdy someone important..?" I asked in a soft cooing voice. The bird nodded.

"Was the other bird.. Like you ex..? And was he the one who broke the nest?" I asked. The birdy started shaking and nodded. I looked around and found a few sticks and picked duo the ones underneath the broken nest. I put it together. The bird chirped happily and flew right in to it.

"Wanna come with us? We're gonna journey around, we're ninjas!" I said brightly and happily. The birdy seemed to be smiling and nodded. Little did I know Gaara was behind me watching the entire thing. Just then we all heard a loud chirp.

"I dont like this forest." Gaara's voice came from behind me. I picked up the bird in the nest.

"Let's get out of here then," I said warningly. He nodded and we got back and packed.

We got out breathless. The bird flew up from the nest and looked around.

We heard a chirp of alert. Gaara looked up and I was still recovering. Gaara looked frozen. I heard a noise from the forest. Like a stick stepped on it a leaf. It was a man with a mask and another bird. The bird beside me cried out and tried to fly away but the other bird attacked. The man walked up to us. And Gaara tried to do something but suddenly then...

Everything went black.

I woke up in a pitch dark room. "Gaara!?" I cried out. I struggled to get of or move but realized my hands were tied up. I looked around trying to find a light or something. It stank of dead fish and burned down crack. The smell went to my mouth and it was horrible. My body went weak. That's when I realized what was going on.... I tried to scream but nothing came out. It was like I never said anything. I threw myself where I could go try and get out. I somehow fell off out of the chains. I ran around the dark room in search of a door. It was unlocked when I found one. I opened it and was a bit startled by the light. I ran looking for something. I found another room and tried turning the doorknob. Nothing. I banged on the door. "WHY WONT YOU FUCKING OPEN!" I screamed. It suddenly opened and I fell over. My hair went in to my face. I sat up and glared at the door. I heard a soft chirping noise and found a small cage.

"CHIRP CHIRP CHIRP CHIRP!" the bird said alertly like trying to warn me. I didn't understand until I heard a cling of chains. I looked up and saw a cage. It fell the second I saw it I tried to get out and run away by the second I realized I should move I was locked up the bird outside of if. I grabbed one of the bars and tried to break it or pick up the cage.

Nothing.

"GAARA!!!!" I screamed.

Why now.

Why

Why....

Why couldn't you have left us alone.......
