A Smile To Hide The Pain

Betrayal

She paced back and forth in her apartment.  She had abandoned her babies.  She felt sick.  She had to go back for them.  She got in her car and began to drive.   She was completely unaware that Elliot was following her.

She drove for what seemed like hours until she reached a small warehouse type building.   She went around the back to a small door.  She forced it open and looked around.    It was a tiny space at the back of a pretty small building.   A place she had live for years without seeing the outside world.   At first as she scanned the room she thought it was empty.   That her captor had killed her children, until she heard faint sobs.  She walked to the small bed and found her son Eli laying there. She picked him up gently.   "Shh mommy's here.   It's OK" she said softly.  She wasn't in a rush to leave.   She changed him and sat on the old bed to feed him.  She knew he hadn't been fed since she left since he was only 4 months and she had been breastfeeding him.  She knew the man who took her didn't care.  She had betrayed her son.    "I'm so sorry baby" she cried. Then she began to sob as she realised that Amelia was gone.  She sat on the bed and cried as she rocked Eli gently.   The closet door slowly opened and Amelia crawled out weakly.  "Mommy?"  she asked in tears. 
"It's me sweetie.   I'm so sorry I left.  I couldn't get you out.   I should've come back for you" she said picking up.her daughter and getting ready to leave.  
"Uncle Nick stopped bringing food and drink I'm really thirsty"
"He's not your uncle.  I'll take care of you"  she said heading for the door which made Amelia panic.  Elliot had long gone by now   Olivia put the kids in the back and drove them to Elliot's apartment. 

When she knocked at the door a woman she didn't recognise answered the door.  She was beautiful with a warm smile.  "Can I help you?"  she asked softly. 
"Who are you?"
"I'm Melody, Elliot's girlfriend" when she said this Olivia stumbled back and tears filled her eyes.
"I'm sorry.  I-I must have the wrong apartment" she said as she went to turn around. .  Elliot stepped out and saw her. 
"Liv..."
"No... I-I get it.. I'll s-stay away I'm s-sorry"
"No Liv wait. ... you don't understand... you were gone for 3 years.   I couldn't be stuck in the past forever"
"3 years 11 months and 15 days" she mumbled tearfully.  
"What. ..?"
"That's how long a spent locked up.  That's how long I spent getting raped.   Trying to raise children in a tiny room!" she walked away quickly holding Amelia and Eli close.  Elliot lightly caught her hand and she roughly pulled away.  "You were living your life.  My life was over but at least I thought about you.  You just hopped into bed with the first girl you met!" she kept walking.  She felt so betrayed.  Like he never loved her.  How could she raise children with someone who doesn't care?  But she never gave him a chance to explain.   Now he felt just as hurt and betrayed as she did.
