Chapter 5

-And A Vision of Edward Danced in Her Head-

"Edward, hun, what are you talking about?" asked Renee, trying to talk the situation out, being a peacekeeper as always.

He remained silent. Charlie and his wife gave each other worried glances. Edward kept driving.

"Edward," asked Renee a few minutes later, sounding an awful lot like her daughter when she tries to ask Edward things, always starting with his name, wanting to gain his full attention. This caught up his smooth act and his gaze faltered towards her.

"Yes, Renee?" he said, just staring out at the road, a second of sadness flitted through Edward's face, thinking of Bella.

"Where are you taking us?" she asked, her voice wavering as she spoke because of the nervous state she was in.

"You don't need to know," said Edward, his hard edge returning.

Renee looked at Charlie, searching for a solution. "Why... Why are you doing this?" she said, a quiet tone in her voice.

"Now Renee, don't be thinking I'm evil. I'm not an evil man. I don't want to kill you. I don't want to hurt you. This needs to be done. Not for your sake, but for mine. For Bella." Edward spoke without a twinge in his posture or voice.

"What does Bella have to do with all this?" asked Charlie.

Once again, Edward remained silent. After a few minutes, Edward spoke again, in his typical, calm voice. "But to answer your previous question, why am I doing this, the reply is quite simple." Edward glanced back for a second before returning his glare to the road. "Lust."

*back at the house, a few hours later*

"Let's go shopping!" exclaimed Alice, walking into the living room where Rosalie, Esme, and Bella were gathered.

Before any of them had a chance to reply, Alice felt the need to add "in Paris!"

Esme gave Rosalie a bothered look. "How about I drive the three of you to Port Angeles for the day?"

Bella frowned, realizing she wouldn't be able to go. "I can't go. I'm dead."

Esme and Alice were also saddened by the remembrance of this. "Oh yeah, have you decided on a death story yet?" asked Alice. "What are you telling everybody?"

"Oh Edward made something up about a dog bite," said Bella, not really paying much attention to the topic. Rosalie and Alice looked at each other, unsure how to respond to the fact that Edward had made the decision on Bella's death.

"Has he spoken with anybody to tell them?" asked Esme, concerned that the decision was made without Carlisle, who was out hunting with his sons.

Bella looked at Esme, hearing the edge of concern in her voice. "He left a few hours ago to tell my parents. Now that I think of it, he should of been back a long time ago. But... is there a problem?" she asked, the last part addressing Esme's tone of voice.

"Yes, there is actually. That was not Edward's decision to make."

The teens in the room all exchanged glances, hearing the tension mount in Esme's voice for her son.

"Why does it matter?" asked Bella.

"Bella, Edward you see..." Esme wasn't exactly crystal clear on what Edward had said to Bella about his love, but she figured it must be said. "Edward loves you. He knows you won't leave Jacob."

"You know!?" gasped Bella, standing up immediately. "Does Jacob know too?"

"Yes, dear, why?" said Esme, unhappy with her explanation being ended.

"We need to leave. Now," said Bella, already starting to walk towards the door.

"If Jacob knows this information, he's going to rip Edward to shreds, or at least try to. We've got to go save Edward!" exclaimed Bella. "Why aren't you guys moving?" she said, her voice getting louder.

Rosalie laughed. "Bella, Jacob has known for days. He's not going to hurt him," she said with a flick of her hair.

"Oh..." Bella went back to her seat on the couch next to Alice. "I feel stupid now, thanks guys."

But Esme was the one who stood up this time. "No, we need to find Edward, alright. Does anyone even realize what he's doing? He's using Bella's parents to get to her! He wants Bella to follow him for something, but I don't know what. And what's better than human bait?"

Bella was stunned, so was Alice, but Rosalie seemed skeptical. "That's kind of a far stretch, don't you think?"

"Why else would he do it, though? Why else would he feel the need to personally deliver the news to Bella's parents?" asked Esme.

"Maybe because it's his fault that the news needs to be delivered!" exclaimed Rosalie, mad at how ridiculous the situation was getting.

"Edward really doesn't regret changing me," said Bella. "Does he? He's happier that I'm more like him, isn't he?"

"Edward may not have a soul, but he still has a heart... even though it doesn't beat. He probably regrets it. You're all being stupid!" she said and turned around to go up the stairs, her shoes making loud clicks on each step.

"Esme, I think you're right," said Alice. But suddenly, she stared off into the distance, not even noticing Esme's response of needing to do something about the situation at hand.

Bella moved closer to Alice, being at the far end of the couch before. "Alice, what do you see?" she asked.

"Edward." She paused. "He's taking them."

Bella's eyes went wide. "Your parents," continued Alice. "We need to leave. We need to help." Alice came back into reality quickly. "Esme, you stay here. Bella and I will go find him. Tell Carlisle what happened when he'a back. Send Jasper and Emmett with him. Have the wolves stay here. I'm going to need my vision for this!"

And with that, Bella and Alice ran at a vampire pace to the garage, got into the closest car, not even noticing what it was, and practically flew from the driveway.

"Why would Edward do something like this?" asked Bella to Alice, wondering if she'd figured it out from her vision.

"It's slightly foggy, but the only thing I could come up with was one word," said Alice quickly, as she raced through the town, hoping to catch Edward's car within the hour by doubling his speed.

"What is it?" asked Bella, quite concerned.

"Lust," said Alice, looking at Bella through concerned eyes.
