*the other day*
"Wow... Leah. I'm very excited for you." Even though Bella already knew this was the truth, hearing it come from Leah's mouth frazzled her. It's like it was unexpected, even though it was completely expected. "Who's the lucky guy?" It wasn't jealousy, was it?
Leah didn't speak for a moment. She was quiet and looking down. Bella looked closer, only to notice that Leah was embarrassed.
Not in a bad way though, no. Her lips pulled up at the corners in the slightest fashion and when Bella looked at just the right angle, she was able to see the tiny pink tinge to her cheeks.
"I've never seen you blush before." She was taken aback. Leah was tough, never one to get excited about a guy. She only really ever got sad and it was only ever about the big things anyways.
"I'm not sure if you want to know who it is." Leah looked back up, the brief happiness she'd shown had flicked out of her eyes.
"Go ahead. I won't mind."
"It's... uhm... Edward?" Bella could tell how excited Leah wanted to be, but was trying so hard to mask it. She was unsure of Bella's reaction since he'd hurt her so. It was apparent in the household that they'd made up, but Leah still expected somewhat of a grudge to be held... something Bella tended to do.
"Great," said Bella, slowly clenching her teeth. She did not understand why she was suddenly beginning to be bothered.
"Are you sure you're alright with it?" asked Leah. Bella nodded and Leah actually threw her hands up in excitement, the twinkle returning back to her eyes as quickly as it had left. \
But it was gone again.
"I need help." She paused and Bella looked closely at her, confused. "I didn't really... I wasn't planning..." The romance type of thing was new for Leah and it stressed her out. "I don't know how to go on a date and I have nothing to wear." She sighed.
"First off, why Edward? He's kind of... a vampire." Bella planned to help Leah, but not after getting more information.
"He's an outcast, like me. He's also gone out of his way to be nice to me, which he doesn't do for really anyone else. I don't know," Leah muttered.
"I see. Did he ask you?" Bella knew Jacob had done the dirty work. She shifted in her seat awkwardly, which was an awkward movement in its own for a vampire who never gets tired.
This is when Leah became very uneasy. "Well, no. I actually haven't spoken to him in person about it."
"Then what happened?" prodded Bella further, still sitting rather uncomfortably.
"Jacobaskedmeforhimandtoldmenottotellyou." Her eyes shifted off of Bella and straight to the blank wall, causing avoidance.
"What?" Bella sharpened her gaze toward her friend.
"Edward asked Jacob to set it up and ask me for him. Then Jacob said not to tell you. I don't know why..." Leah made no eye contact with Bella.
Now Bella understood why Leah had been acting so fraught. "Weird." She attempted to shrug it off, like that didn't bother her; Leah did not notice since she was averting looking at Bella.
Bella sighed and pushed her lips into a deep line, waiting for Leah to say something, but she had nothing more to say. "Hey," piped up Bella, slightly changing the subject, "I'll help you get ready on Saturday."
