Chapter 13

Okay...Okay...Don't worry Alice. I'm sure he still feels the same. I took a deep breath and walked up to Harry. "Hey." I said. It was a beautiful sunny day and I was feeling a little nervous but happy. I'd seen the doctor the other day and he said my legs were healed so I could have the casts taken off at the weekend. I was ecstatic! Just one more day and I would be free from these stupid things.

"Hey." Harry said back, smiling.

"Can I talk to you for a sec...?" I asked. He nodded and followed me over to a place on the school field out of sight from everyone else. 

Harry cleared his throat. "So what's this about?"

"What do you think?" I asked, raising an eyebrow. He looked sheepish and turned his head away.

I sighed and said, "You know, I didn't really realise it at the time but I did mean what I said."

Harry looked confused, then it clicked and he said, "Oh."

"I love you. I always have. I just guess I thought I was over you but I wasn't. When you told me, it was such a shock..."

"I meant what I said as well. I love you." he said, looking at me properly. We stood silently for a while. I was about to say something but Harry interrupted me by embracing me into a hug. I froze for a second but then relaxed into it. His hugs were warm and comforting. It felt kind of... right to be in his arms.

We parted and I started to say "Well..."

"Will you go out with me, Alice Cooper?" Harry asked with a grin.

"Yes, yes of course I will!" I cried happily. He laughed at me then we kind of looked at each other. I studied his face, he was smiling. His deep brown eyes were twinkling with amusement and happiness. I sensed him leaning forward and braced myself. He placed a tender kiss on my lips and I did the same to him.

Before I knew what I was doing I grabbed Harry's waist and started to kiss him more passionately now. I felt like it was just me and him, nobody else around us. It was a dream come true! He was kissing me back equally as passionately and it made me so happy to think that after all this time, I had finally got him. We drew for breath and I whispered "I love you Harry."

"I love you too Alice." he whispered back. I stepped away from him and said, "We better go back to the others. They'll be wondering what's happened to you." He nodded in agreement and we walked over to our friends together.

As soon as I was in full view of them, Georgina rushed over to me and cried "Whatdidhesaywhatdidhesaywhatdidhesay?!"

I just laughed and replied "The right thing."

"You mean...?" She looked at my foolish grin and whispered in my ear "Are you going out?"

"How did you guess?" I cried. Georgina laughed and joined me to jump up and down and celebrate. People were staring but I didn't care. I was happy! I had the guy of my dreams! I stopped jumping when the bell went for the next lesson.

"You have to tell me everything. And I mean EVERYTHING!" Georgina insisted. I rolled my eyes but the truth was, I couldn't wait to share what had happened. We walked to our lesson, my best friend asking questions excitedly and me answering them truthfully.

The day soon passed and I walked home with Harry. We held hands he whole time and hugged when we had to go our separate ways. I was feeling so loved up and happy! When I got home, I was just about to tell Mum about my amazing day when I saw that she was talking to my dad... MY DAD. My dad who I hadn't seen for weeks, maybe even months.

"Dad?" I said. He turned round to face me and smiled.

"Alice!" he cried and came over to me, stretching out his arms. I struggled out of the hug, which was so tight I couldn't breathe.

How could I have forgotten about him? I mean, he's my dad for goodness sake! I guess I got so caught up in everything that I didn't notice that I hadn't seen him in a while. "Why haven't I seen you for ages, dad?" I asked, staring at mum. Hard. She should have said something.

"Oh, I dunno... maybe your mum didn't want me to see you...?" he replied slowly and angrily, also glaring at mum.

I looked back at Dad open-mouthed. Did he just...? How can she...?

"It's not what you think Alice." Mum said helplessly.

"Yes it is! I've been wanting to see her for weeks but you wouldn't let me! You're too busy with that new boyfriend of yours - Josh." Dad shouted. Uh oh. I think it was time for me to get out of there...

"Just going to my room. Bye." I said quickly and rushed away before anybody could stop me.

After running up the stairs, I collapsed onto my bed and sighed heavily. I could hear my mum and dad screaming at each other from my room. I put my hands over my ears but I could still hear them. I rolled off the bed and found my iPod shuffle underneath it. "So that's where it went!" I exclaimed.

Still lying on the floor by my bed, I plugged my headphones into my ears and turned the iPod on. The track that came on was "One and Only" by Adele.

I dunno why I'm scared,

Cos I've been here before,

"Alice?" I heard my mum say faintly. Wait, that sounded like she was in the room. Frantically, I pulled out my earphones and rolled over onto my front to see her standing at the door kind of awkwardly. How log had she been there?  My cheeks flamed - she'd heard me singing. "I just wanted to...explain." she tried.

I sighed and pulled myself up. "What is there to explain? You don't want me to see my dad."

"No... I do, it's just..." mum said.

"Just what...?"
