Today is the day.
Today is the day when Mitch will have the cochlear implant surgery.
The week was long, but the day finally came. Kevin told him that he will still have to attend Hansen's because his hearing will not be 100%, but he will hear better. He will have to attend speech classes because of his lack of speaking for so long and will have a speech therapist at Hansen's.
He is going to hear again. He won't have hearing aids anymore. He will be able to hear Kirstie's light voice again. He could hear Imogen Heap and Beyoncé again.
He could hear Scott sing again.
~~~
*Are you ready?* Scott asked, sitting down to Mitch. The sixteen year old nodded lazily, the anesthesia spreading through his body quickly. *You're going to hear again.*
*I know!* Mitch signed happily, his smile wide. He closed his eyes, his gestures becoming weak. *I can't believe it. I'll get to hear you again.*
*I know.*
There were times when Mitch will put his ear on Scott's chest every time the tall blond sang so he could 'hear' him sing. He knew the vibrations helped him with that, but it wasn't enough. He just wanted to hear Scott's voice again.
His pure and strong voice.
*I can't wait to hear you sing again.*
*I can't wait for you to hear again.*
Mitch finally fell asleep, the anesthesia taking control of his body. Kevin walked in, his smile wide. Scott smiled back and stood up, his legs wobbly from excitement.
"Are you ready?" Kevin asked, ready to push Mitch's bed. Scott hesitated, but he nodded anyway. "I will give you updates. Everything will be okay, Scott. He will be okay."
"I know, I trust you," Scott replied, running his hands through Mitch's hair. The sixteen year old looked so peaceful. "I trust you completely."
"Okay," Kevin replied, pushing Mitch's bed. Scott followed him, a smile on his face. "I have a surgery to attend to. I'll see you in a few."
Scott waved and watched as Kevin went through the operation room doors, frowning suddenly. He knows that Mitch will be okay and that the surgery is safe, but anything could happen. What happens if Mitch...dies?
"Mom, Dad," Scott whispered, sitting down on a nearby chair. He closed his eyes, folding his hands together. He felt a tear escape, wanting everything to be okay. "I know you two want Mitch to be with you again but don't take him yet. I still need him. Please."
~~~
Kirstie walked into class, everyone starting at her intensely. She rolled her eyes and sat down, not caring that she interrupted the lesson. Her teacher sighed and did nothing, being used to Kirstie being late all the time.
"Yo, Kirstie," a girl whispered, a note in her hand. The blonde girl nodded, looking over at the girl and took the letter from her. "This is from Ariana."
Kirstie nodded as she looked up at Ariana, frowning when the brunette refused to look at her. She sighed as she opened the letter, reading over it quickly.
Kirstie,
I forgive you. I understand though. A lot of people do not like me. You saying that didn't really surprise me. When someone says that they don't like me, I'm not surprised.
That does not automatically mean that I don't like you anymore. My brother taught me to love everyone, even if they are rude. You aren't rude, but your words were rude. You don't really have a filter. That's okay though because a lot of people don't have filters either.
Opening night for The Angel Within is coming closer. I honestly can't wait. Working with you was the best thing that has ever happened to me. You really are my sunshine on a cloudy day.
You are amazing. Don't you ever forget that, Kirstie. You go through life wondering if people are impressed with you and let me just they aren't. They are impressed with the person they want you to be, not with the person you want to be. The Kirstie that sneaks out, drinks, does drugs, smokes cigarettes and weed, and goes to parties isn't you. The Kirstie that speaks for herself, refuses to let people control her, super sweet, headstrong, and lives her brother is you.
Don't let people control you. Impress yourself before you impress others. That is the most important. You are not some toy that the kids at the playground fight over. You are Kirstie Hoying, the strongest person I know.
Love, Ariana
P.S: One more thing...please, please don't fall in love me.
Kirstie read over the letter once more, her heart beating fast. She bit her lip as she put the letter away. Why did Ariana not want her to fall in love with her? Did something happen to her? Why was she like this?
I'll find out, Ariana. Just you wait.

"Hey, babe," Alex replied, kissing Scott sweetly. Scott sighed in relief, holding onto Alex tightly. "Melanie is coming to see Mitch. She's been sick for a little while. Something about eating too cotton candy hearts and throwing up on a carousel."
"Nice," Scott commented sarcastically, rolling his eyes. He shook his head and laughed a bit. "Melanie is a special kind of awesome."
"Yeah she is," Alex confirmed, laughing along with his boyfriend. "How is Mitch doing?"
"The surgery will be over in an hour or so. Everything is going the way it's supposed to. The surgeon had to shave off most of his hair though."
"Oh, that sucks. At least it's going well. How's Kirstie going?"
"Awesome, I think. We haven't fought in a long time. Out last real fight was when I told Mitch that he has a different father from us. Other than that, I think she's doing well."
Alex nodded, his heart heavy for Scott. The tall blond obviously had more to say, but he's not saying anything. Scott closed himself off a lot and it took a lot to get something out of him. It broke Alex's heart because Scott used to be the most open person he knew. After his parents died, he refused to say how he felt. It broke Alex's heart.
"That's good."
Scott nodded and looked over when Kevin came in. The surgeon looked exhausted but smiled nonetheless. He walked up to Scott, shaking his hand happily.
"The surgery was a success! Mitch has a cochlear implant now!"
