Hux noticed things. Things that tended to irk him. They could be little things, like a stormtrooper out of line. Or when Ren's cape is a little askew.
Or when his precious firstmate leaned over Kylo's shoulder when he was sitting down. Or when she would push her hood back. Or when they would talk, but not normal talking, whispering. And it was close whispering, with their heads close together, gathered over some plan or something.
These were the little things that irked Hux. And every time he saw them he could feel the little vein in his forehead pop out. But he wouldn't yell, he would never yell.
Hux was walking down the corridors of the ship, on his way to the private living quarters. And he saw something that made the little vein pop out of his head. It was Kylo Ren and Tai, speaking in hushed tones. Both of their faces were covered, but Hux noticed that Tai's brown hair was peaking out from the edge of her hood. Jealously fumed inside of him, but he wasn't sure why.
Kylo noticed Hux out of the corner of his eye. He stopped talking to Tai and turned his head to the orange headed general. Hux's face was bright red and the little vein was pulsing up and down. The corners of his mouth turned up slightly. He found it hilarious when Hux was on the verge of a mental breakdown. He stole a glance at Tai, wanting to watch her crinkle up her eyes as she tried to hold in laughter. He noticed that she did that. He realized that she never really indulged herself in frivolities. She winced when people touched her, or glared when people smiled at her. She rarely ever laughed, and when she did it was sharp and brief.
Tai's face was stone cold. She didn't even twitch when she looked at Hux with the same frosty gaze she gave everybody.
Hux let out a constipated sigh and stiffly walked away from the two. "What was that about?" She said in a quiet voice. Ren looked down at her again and watched as she pulled her hood further over her face. She turned away from him and began walking to a door.
"Perhaps we shouldn't go in that area," Kylo said with a twinge of regret in his voice. She looked back at him.
"Why not?" She said to him before resuming her steps. Ren caught her wrist in his large hand.
"I killed...I killed someone in a room like that," he said haltingly. She pulled her wrist away and glared.
"And? Who was he to you?" She hissed placing a hand on the scanner. The door opened to reveal a giant room with pillars and a long bridge going to the other side.
"He was Han Solo," he said trying to grab her again as she stepped inside. With a pull of the Force, Tai turned around to look at Ren. "He was a part Resistance." Tai glared, the only thing she was capable of doing in that situation. He approached her slowly, pulling the hood off her head.
Tai's brown hair was long and slightly curled at the bottoms. Half of it had been braided into a small, flat bun on the back of her head. Silver bands held the bun in place. Her yellow eyes were glowing with power and her muscles rippled under her skin. "Snoke told me to train you," Ren said quietly, "He asked me to make you strong. I suppose it is time for me to do that then." He gently pulled her cloak from her shoulders and let the midnight fabric collect on the grey ground. He dropped the metal mask to the ground with a heavy thud. "So. By all means, let us train."
With a rush, Tai's body was freed from Kylo's power. She stumbled backwards, shocked he had the audacity to touch her so familiarly. He smiled and pulled out his deadly lightsaber. The red, unstable energy flew out from the three holes. His dark eyes glowed with the red light and he swung it at her. She flipped put of the way quickly, landing a few feet away. She raised her hand and pushed him back slightly, causing his boots to skid on the floor. With a confident smile, Tai pulled out her own saber and pushed the button with her thumb. The purple blade extended out from the hilt, reflecting off her eyes.
"Purple? Not very conventional," Kylo mused as he approached her quickly. She backpedalied quickly, avoiding the bright light coming from his weapon.
"Red is too common. I wanted to leave my own unique mark," She said parrying a blow from him. The fight began to pick up, their heart rates quickened. The sparks from the sabers clashing flew everywhere, bouncing off of the steel structures. Tai spun out of the way, switching between offensive and defensive strategies, hoping to throw off Ren. The Commander moved with her, keeping up with her rapid movements.
They had ended up in the middle of the narrow bridge. Tai noticed there were no rails on the side of it, her attacks visibly slowed. Kylo Ren fought harder, attempting to throw her off balance. The lightsaber clashed off eachother, dancing together in the dim light of the room. Ren saw she left her right leg open and swooped for it. She caught the hilt of his blade in her hand, righting them. He grabbed her hilt as well.
They were locked. He towered over her, their eyes glaring at eachother. Kylo looked into them, seeing the darkness inside. She was everything he wanted to be. She knew who she was. She didn't wonder what it was like to be on the light side. She was the opposite of Rey.
He watched her push back against him, her arms rippling and her legs pushed into the ground. He was enchanted by the hair around her shoulders and the drop of sweat going down her face. He pushed forward more, making her back foot slip a bit on the tractionless steel. Her lips curled into a defiant sneer, one of her many trademark expressions.
Tai glared up at him, pushing as much as possible. His brown eyes flashed. Then their lips were connected.
The strain in her arms released and their two sabers shut off at the same time. She clenched hers, feeling a strange sensation in her abdomen. She quickly pushed him back and summoned her cloak from across the room. The black fabric settled around her face and she turned quickly and walked away. Her hand pushed the hilt of the saber into her holster.
Ren was forced to watch as the enchantress stormed away, sensations of panic and confusion radiating off her. He watched as she disappeared through the door and closed it behind her. He stood there in shock. He couldn't piece together why he had done that. He stood in the room for a long while, until Hux came to him. He held his helmet in his hands, offering it to him. The genral's face looked smug as Ren took it and slipped it over his hair. "What happened?" Hux said crisply.
"She got angry," Ren said in his altered voice. Hux snorted as they began to walk towards the exit together.
"I knew the girl wasn't stable. There's something wrong with her. I dont trust her," he said with distain. "And you shouldn't either, Ren."
"She's smart, Genral," he said as they walked into the private quarters, "I would trust her with anything. Especially this next mission we are sending her on. She's our chance to finish what Vader started."
