"He looks just like you." Yugi whispers as he gently slides a sleeping Atemu into his crib. Our little baby boy sleeping peacefully, swaddled in a blue blanket adorned with small blue eyes white dragons. I will only give you one guess as to who's gift that was, thoughtful but tacky. Has Kaiba written all over it. "Besides having my eyes he looks just like how you used to."
"I must have been absolutely adorable then." I whisper in response. Yugi merely smiles at me with a look of slight disappointment.
"Such modesty." He mumbles.
"He has your temperament." I murmur. Yugi looks at me curiously his eyes glowing in the dim yellow light of the dark magician girl night light.
"You think so?"
"Absolutely," I nuzzle my loves neck. "Sweet, and easygoing. Has you written all over it."
"Then Heba must have your temperament." He answers teasingly. "Hot blooded and fiery."
"She has her sweet moments." I answer defensively. "She just knows what she wants and when she wants it."
"Sounds familiar."
"What is that supposed to mean?"
"Like father like daughter." Yugi says teasingly.
"You wound me." I place a hand dramatically over my heart. "Your words are an assault on my heart aibou."
"And I know just the way to cure those wounds." He says with a smirk.
"Oh? Do you?" I smirk in response, leaning forward. Yugi smiles up at me, his eyes alight with joy and love as I draw ever closer. I close my eyes and wait for the soft press of lips but nothing of that sort comes. Instead I have a small bundle being placed in my arms squirming in a desperate attempt to break free.
"Yeah, you can put Heba back to bed."
"Aibou." I groan. "You played me."
"No, you played yourself." He whispers before planting a gentle kiss on Heba's small forehead. Soft amethyst eyes glance into mine before placing a soft, sweet kiss upon my lips. I return the kiss and almost whine when he pulls away from me. "I'll see you in a little bit."
"Promise?"
Yugi simply chuckles before kissing me gently on the cheek. He smiles sweetly at me before disappearing from view. I sigh softly as I resign myself to sitting in the plush rocking chair that Solomon had purchased for us. The memory of him coming over and yelling at me about the children is still amusing, but at the moment rather aggravating. He was afraid that I had thrusted too much of a responsibility on Yugi at too young of an age. Though as soon as his eyes laid on Atemu and Heba he sang an entirely different tune.
Small fingers dig into my black tank top as we rock slowly. Bright crimson eyes clash with mine. I can't help but smile down at my daughter. Even at this young of an age she is absolutely beautiful.
"So my little princess," I murmur. "What will it be tonight? Absolute silence or will I sing for you?" She blinks up at me with a blank expression. "Now don't give me that." I purse my lips. "I know you're smarter than that, you know exactly what I'm saying to you." A soft gurgle emanates from Heba's lips as she cuddles her face into my chest. "Singing it is then." I chuckle lightly.
I hold my daughter close and let her small head rest against the planes of my chest. I start to hum and a small grin glows on her face as she feels the vibrations rumbling through my chest.
"Little child, be not afraid
The rain pounds harsh against the glass
Like an unwanted stranger
There is no danger
I am here tonight
Little child
Be not afraid"
Small eyes begin to droop and her grip on my shirt begins to loosen as my words float through the air.
"Though thunder explodes
And lightning flash
Illuminates your tearstained face
I am here tonight
And someday you'll know
That nature is so
This same rain that draws you near me
Falls on rivers and land
And forests and sand
Makes the beautiful world that you see"
I slowly rise to my feet and gently stride around the room, careful not to jostle my little princess awake.
"In the morning
Little child
Be not afraid
The storm clouds mask your beloved moon
And its candlelight beams
Still keep pleasant dreams
I am here tonight
Little child
Be not afraid
The wind makes creatures of our trees
And the branches to hands
They're not real, understand
And I am here tonight
And someday you'll know
That nature is so
This same rain that draws you near me
Falls on rivers and land
And forest and sand
Makes the beautiful world that you see
In the morning"
A soft breath of contentment passes through her small lips as sleep begins to cradle her in its embrace. Her intelligent face going slack in relaxation.
"For you know, once even I
Was a little child
And I was afraid
But a gentle someone always came
To dry all my tears
Trade sweet sleep for fears
And to give a kiss goodnight
Well, now I am grown
And these years have shown
Rain's a part of how life goes
But it's dark and it's late
So I'll hold you and wait
till your frightened eyes do close
And I hope that you'll know
That nature is so
This same rain that draws you near me"
I gently place her sleeping form besides that of her brother. Both unconsciously gravitate towards one another, small hands and fingers searching for another until they finally touch.
"Falls on rivers and land
And forests and sand
Makes the beautiful world that you see
In the morning
Everything's fine in the morning
The rain will be gone in the morning
But I'll still be here in the morning"
The final words leave my lips like a whisper as I gently caress the heads of my children. "Sweet dreams my little prince and princess." I quietly creep from the room and leave my children to rest peacefully. My heart brimming with joy and happiness as the door shuts behind me with a click.
