According to the doctor she has a high fever that doesn't seem to lower even a single decimal point. If this continues... I will no longer have my little girl to hold. Solomon, Atemu and Yugi all remain silent as we sit around the bed. Seth and Joey are standing out in the hallway, giving us a moment alone with our ill child. Yugi holds one of her small little hands in his own while I run my fingers through her similar hair. Her intelligent eyes are closed due to her being sedated to relieve the pain. My little princess. What I wouldn't give to relieve her of this horrible situation.
The memory of Seth first putting her into my arms was the happiest moment in my life, I was finally a father. The small child before me is the combination of Yugi and myself. I glance over at Atemu who's eyes never seem to stray from his sister. I can only wonder just how much he understands about this situation. If he knows what is at stake in this very moment. I refuse to have one child without the other. The two are pair and should always be together.
"I'm so sorry Yami and Yugi." Solomon whispers after several minutes of silence. The sound makes me flinch but I remain silent. Yugi turns to look at his grandfather. "This never should have happened."
"It's not your fault." Yugi says softly.
"It's no ones fault." I amend. "No one could have known..." I run my fingers through her silky hair, watching her small chest rise and fall with each short breath. "Could have known this would have happened." We all fall into silence once more as we stare down at the small child. Atemu reaches for his sister but Solomon holds him back.
"I'll take him." I say softly. Solomon says nothing as he hands me my son. Atemu puts a hand on my face before turning back towards Heba and reaching out for her. "What do you want Atemu?" I whisper. "Heba can't play with you right now."
"He..." My whole body freezes at the sound. Yugi looks up at the both of us with a stunned expression. "Ba..."
"Is he?" Yugi chokes through tears.
"He...ba.." Atemu says again. "Heba." He reaches for her even more drastically. "Heba!"
"He wants Heba." Yugi says with a tearful expression. "He's worried about her."I turn Atemu around to face me. His amethyst eyes are brimming with tears as they look upon me.
"I'm worried about her too." I whisper. "Come along my prince, let's go for a walk." I walk over to Yugi and plant a gentle kiss on the top of his head. "We'll be back."
"I love you." He whispers as he strokes Heba's small hand. "Please come back soon."
"I will." I hold Atemu close to me and go out into the hall. Joey and Seth are sitting in the waiting room. Joey instantly jumps to his feet when he sees me while Seth stares upon me sadly.
"Yami!" Joey runs over to me. "Are you alright? Is Yugi alright?"
"We're as alright as we can be in this situation." I say after a moment of silence. My entire body feels numb and I can't help but feel my eyes tear up at the thought of my baby lying in the hospital bed. "So we're not doing well at all." I answer honestly.
"I am so so-"
"Please don't tell me your sorry." I interject, "that's the last thing I want to hear right now. If you can try and understand."
"Yeah," Joey says softly. "I completely understand."
"Thank you." My eyes glance over at Seth who is refusing to meet my gaze. "Thank you Seth." He flinches at my words and continues to stare down at his hands.
"For what?"
"For bringing Heba here." I smile faintly. "I appreciate everything you have done for us."
"I wish there was more I could do." He answers softly. "I would do anything."
"Heba." Atemu whispers.
"Yeah, little one." I say gently. "Heba is sick."
"Heba." He says sadly small tears rolling down his round cheeks.
"Shhh little one," I coo as I cradle him in my arms. "Don't cry." And just like magic he slowly begins to stop crying. Magic? Seth looks up at me curiously for a moment.
"Atem?"
"Seth I need you to watch Atemu for a while."
"What are you going to do?" He asks as he wraps his arms around my small son. Atemu instantly begins to kick and try to return to me reaching his small pudgy hands out to me. "Atem?"
"I am going to try and save my daughter." I say seriously.
"And how do you intend to do that?" Joey ask curiously as he pulls Atemu out of Seth's amateur arms.
"Seth gave me children by using magic to create them and now I'm going to use my magic to save my daughters life." I don't wait for them to respond before running back to Heba's room. I need to test this theory now. If this doesn't work I don't know what will. If this doesn't work then all of my hope will be gone. My hope would die alongside my daughter.
