Chapter 17

Marvel, Cato, and I sprint into the forest. We don't see the fire yet. We look around, we start sprinting even deeper into the forest. Untill I can smell the smoke. We run to where the fire was started. All there is, is burnt wood. They probably ran away, or this was a trap. We stand there looking confused, then Marvel shouts,

"Hey, look, there's more smoke over there, should we check it out?"

I see the patch of smoke Marvel was pointing to.

"Sure, but last one, and we need to make it quick, just in case someone is playing a trick." replies Cato.

We start for the other camp fire. Turns out this was a scheme as well. Somebody didn't want us at our camp area. They were out to get our supplies. We all look at each other. We stand in silience.

BANG! BANG! BANG! KABOOM!!!

I give a look to Cato and Marvel, and at the same time, we all turn around and run back to camp. Those explosions! They came from camp! Our camp! We arrived to see ALL our supplies blown up into tiny pieces. There's smoke still rising from camp. I scream,

"What happened here!?"

"I'll tell you what happened! Somebody wasn't on watch! Somebody wasn't on duty! Aaron! Where the hell are you!?" screams Cato.

Aaron comes out behind all smoke, he's coughing.

Cato runs up to him. At first I think he's going to ask him if he's alright, being really close to the explosion. But I was wrong. Really wrong. Cato starts yelling and cursing at the top of his lungs," Weren't you supposed to be watching?! Then what's this?!"

Cato is really mad, I can see it on his face. He's panting and screaming and sweating. Oh-oh. He's going to kill Aaron! No!

"Cato no! Cato don't do this! No! Aaron!" I scream as I sprint over to the two of them. But I take a few steps back, because I can't breath when I enter the smokey area.

Cato brings out his knife. "CCCaatoo!! Nooo!! Stoopp!!" Aaron points at me. Cato looks at me. But not long enough to understand what I'm saying. He wraps his elbow around Aaron's neck. And like that, he drops to the ground. Dead.

Cato walks over to me, he's really angry, I shouldn't probably argue with him right now, but I do! Cause he killed a poor little boy! Aaron had no fault! "Cato! What do you think you just did?! How could you!? Why did you do it! I can't believe you did that!?" I slap him, hard. I don't let him talk, I keep talking.

"Aaron! It wasn't his fault! What if I was on guard? Huh? This would've still happened! What would you have done then? Huh? Killed me?! Do you even have a heart!? That little boy...! I hate you Cato!" I start crying, and my voice starts to crack when I'm yelling.

Cato stands there shocked to see and hear me arguing and scolding him! Marvel, hasn't shifted his place since we arrived back at camp. At one point I'm tired so I stop yelling and leave. I grab my back pack, and my knives and start heading into the forest. I don't want to even look at Cato right now! I don't look back to see if either of them come after me, I just jog my way deep in the forest, trying to get lost. I wish there was no capitol! So they wouldn't have done this! So Aaron, and many other young kids could enjoy their lives! Cato has changed so much, not what he used to be. He killed Aaron, for something that was out of his control. And I wasn't going to forgive him.

I find an oak tree with a lot of branches, I start climbing, it's and easy tree to climb, and is a good hiding place. I close my eyes, letting a breeze dry my wet face. And I fall into a deep sleep. I awake not by the sound of Cato's voice, or Marvel's, or any other person's voice. There were multiple cannons. One right after the other. And me being so soft hearted, and knowing I still loved Cato, though I hated him, I jumped out the tree and sprinted towards our camp. Wondering whose cannons those were. Hopefully not Cato's. Cause I still loved him...
