The only sound breaking the whir of the wind turbines spinning was your footsteps, or at least that's all you could hear. The sun was going down and you were determined to get back to your dorm before dark, a little game you had played since middle school here in Academy City. Without your school bag to weigh you down (you had dropped it off at your place before heading out to meet up with a few friends), you were essentially racing the light. Your pace slowed as you hit the main road and walked with the pace of everyone else, soon ducking into your building.
You climbed the stairs, unlocking the door and stepping into your room. It was an average dorm, three small rooms: a bedroom, a bathroom, and a living room which was shared with a small kitchen. Lucky you weren't much of a chef. You didn't have any homework and flopped on the small futon couch to watch some TV before dinner, which you had already decided was going to be leftovers from the night before.
The usual boring TV programs popped up. Basic news about Tree Diagram being shot down and details about the upcoming winter sport competition that was going on this year. You watched idly for a moment before just leaving it on as background noise as you picked up your favorite book and fell into the story. By the time you found yourself at a decent stopping point, it was dark. You checked the time, 07:48, "Damn..." You mutter to yourself, "it was about 06:00 when I got here..." You had been reading for nearly two hours. My how the time flies.
You decided to fix your food now and stood, heading into the kitchen. Once your remaining ramen had been heated and you had grabbed a soda from the fridge, you plopped yourself at the table. You were about half way through your makeshift meal when a loud crash came from the nearby train yard just outside your window. The yard wasn't used since the borders of the city were shut off from almost all modes of transportation, and the sudden crash almost made you choke on the soda you were taking a drink of, but instead you poured some of it in your lap.
Rushing to the window to see what was going on, you only saw a plume of dust. It certainly wasn't smoke. Out of curiosity, you left, leaving your building and rushing around the back to the train yard. Looking through the gates you could make out a few voices, one sadistic and cold, the other blank, but still scared. Male and female in order. You climbed the fence and leapt to the ground, creeping through the huge storage carts as silently as possible. You followed the voices until you heard footsteps from behind you, which at first made you freeze, but then duck into the shadows. Still following the sounds of the fight, you made your way up to the large clearing in the center. It was only in the dull light of a few street lamps used to keep the place illuminated that you recognized Touma Kamijou rushing out into the opening. That must have been the footsteps you heard. The dark haired boy already looked pretty badly beaten and judging from the looks of things, he was in for more. All you could do was watch, because you had tried, and your esper ability was useless against Touma, and you didn't really know the motives of any of them anyway.
"Hey! Accelerator!" He called out, catching the albino's attention but more or less causing you to lose yours. Was that really Academy City's strongest esper? It couldn't really be. Nonetheless, within minutes, the two boys were in one hell of a fight. Touma was thrown into one of the crates, hard enough to dent the red painted metal, and flour blasted out into the air, the small particles remaining airborne around the two.
"Hey... Ever heard of a dust explosion? They're really destructive. You don't want to be caught in the middle of one!" Accelerator said with a crazed laugh in his voice. Touma had started running now, bolting just beyond the dust before the cloud exploded. You were a safe distance away, but the heat was still intense just from where you were. From your perspective, the fight must have been over. Wasn't Accelerator in the middle of that explosion? There's no way he could have survived it.
It was a good five or six minutes later before you found the courage to rush out and try to help the girl. You found her beaten and bloody, hiding between two carts. You hadn't noticed your breathing getting heavy, but it had, as if you were high on a mountain in thin air, but the girl must have heard it, looking back at you as you approached. "Hey. Are you okay?" You asked, kneeling beside her as she leaned against a crate.
"Yes, I am fine right now. Says Misaka, confirming her current state.""We should get you out of here. Now. Things can't get very good from here." You explain to her before a light wind picked up. You peeked around the corner and happened to see the standoff between the level five and the level zero, with Accelerator somehow forming an orb of blue light. Touma apparently got an idea a moment later and turned to rush back to the girl who called herself Misaka, but paused seeing you. He still ran over, giving you a questioning glance before turning to Misaka.
"Alright i need you to focus and try to do something. I need you to get as many of your sisters as you can to start up the wind turbines. Get some airflow, okay?" Touma explained. And Misaka nodded in response. "Of course. Says Misaka as she thinks over the plan."
He gave you one last glance, apparently seeing that you were just trying to help the girl, and continued back to what he was trying to do. The wind picked up and suddenly the glowing orb faltered, dissipating shortly after. It was then when Touma made his move, throwing a solid punch to the other boy's jaw, sending him flying. He collapsed upon stopping, leaving another girl standing behind him revealed. The other looked similar to Misaka, but must have been in middle school. Everyone left but you only moments later, as you were still intrigued by the white haired boy laying on the tracks. You may not have realized it, but deciding to stay would change everything.
