It was like every other Saturday night. I was sitting in my room doing my science homework. I know that sounds lame…like I should be doing everything other than homework on a Saturday night. I should be out with friends having fun but when you live where I live sometimes the most fun to be had is sitting in your room reading a science textbook listening to music.
I wasn't just listening to any music though, I was listening to the BEST MUSIC EVER! I was listening to Slow Kids At Play (SKAP for short). I sat there half reading, half singing along to the music.
"I wanna be in your bedroom, I wanna be on your bathroom floor" I sang in perfect key while tapping along to rhythm. For all of you who have never heard of SKAP i don't blame you… I may judge you slightly but I don't blame you. They are more of a local band. Well a local band to Manhattan Beach California. They are a Reggae/Rock band that’s kinda creating their own style in a way. That's why i love them, they are just amazing. But the most amazing part about the band has to he the drummer.
He plays so well, its almost like he doest have to try when he is drumming he just kinda does it, perfectly I might add. Not only is he an AMAZING drummer he’s also amazingly HOT. He has these gorgeous brown eyes, and amazing brown hair that's always a mess. There is literally nothing about him to hate. Even his name is perfect…. Dylan, Dylan O'Brien.
Stop right there, I know what you're probably thinking.
No I do not love Dylan because he happens to be a famous actor as well. I do love his acting, but unlike most people I liked his band, his drumming, before I even knew he was an actor. That's not to say I don't watch the MTV show, Teen Wolf, he is in. Because I do, almost religiously, every Monday at 10 est.
Right, i should probably explain that too. I don't live anywhere near California. Nope instead I live almost as far away as possible from it without leaving the States, In New England.
I heard of SKAP through a friend who listens to their type of music. To be completely honest before I heard their music I didn't particularly like reggae, or rock for that matter. I used to be into mostly country music.
Back to that Saturday, back to my room where I’m listening to SKAP.
"I Wanna Be" comes to an end but I keep tapping along. I'm lost in thought, no longer reading instead I'm thinking about how much I want to be in California. Almost as if on cue I realize that the song has changed
"Woahohoh 310, noono no place like hoooome, woahohoh living in the 310, noono no place like home. You gotta step into your roots..." Max (the lead singer) sings loudly through my speakers.
I give a quick glare at my phone for playing the song that really makes me want to move to California. Instead I'm stuck here, in the 802. Vermont.
Mid glare my phone goes off. The screen shows that @SlowKidsAtPlay tweeted.
I unlock the phone and wait for the tweet to load. When it finally does the biggest smile ever forms on my face and my eyes grow huge with excitement.

Hope everyone likes the first chapter! Sorry there’s a lot of backtracking going on it wont be like that the rest of the book. And it will be written in first person. Instead of looking back. That was just so it would be easier to explain what was going on.
*I attached the link to where you can hear SKAP's songs because they are not always easy to find*
