The count down was on for the start of school, I was as nervous as ever. I had settled into the new home, moms accent had already started to pick up but I did my best to keep away from it, as much as I liked it, my voice was the one thing that made me special and stands out, besides being the new kid that is. I was packing my bags since Ron had invited me to go watch a quidditch match with him and his friends as well as the rest of the Weasleys, to which I of course accepted. I loved quidditch, I was captain of the team back at my old school and was top scorer. Easy to say it had a special place in my heart.
"Athenaaaaaa" I laughed as I heard Fred drag out my name from the bottom of the stairs
"I'm coming!"
"Well, we don't have all day women let's goo!" He shouted again, causing me to smile. Fred and I had become super close he and George were like the older brothers I never had. I was also able to meet his three older brothers, Bill, Charlie, and Percy. Bill and Charlie were super fun and easy to get along with, not to mention Charlie was pretty good looking but alas, the boy is way to old for me and doesn't shut up about dragons. But he's nice to look at, and a good friend. If that makes any sense.
I grabbed my bag and ran down the hundreds of stairs to see the twins waiting for me while talking with my mom. "Ah, there she is" Fred smiles as I came running into the kitchen, a big grin on my face.
"Yes yes, okay bye mom love you gotta go!" I ran out the door leaving the twins behind me as I was wayyyy to excited to wait. I met the rest of the family outside my house only to see two new faces.
"Oh, Athena there are people I'd like you to meet" I went over to Ron where the two new faces were. It was a boy and a girl, the girl had frizzy brown hair but was pretty, her face was soft with kind brown eyes. The other was a slim boy with black hair that simply wouldn't sit still, beautiful green eyes and a scar on his forehead wait a second. "This is Hermione Granger"
"So nice to meet you! Ron hasn't stopped talking about you since we got here" she pulled me in for an unexpected hug which I gladly expected
"Oh lay off will ya" Ron groaned as I laughed it off
"Glad to know I'm a subject of conversation" I let out a laugh when I saw Hermione's mouth go wide, same with the boys.
"Oh my word, your accent is stunning" I threw my hands up in a joking way
"I'm not the one with the accent!" The rest laughed
"Well you're outnumbered here, so looks like we win" the boy spoke up I smiled at him as he put his hand out. "Harry Potter" the name confirmed my suspicions as I gladly took his hand and shook it. "Athena Grey, lovely to meet you both," I said.
"Okay let's go we've got to hit the road, or else we'll be late!" Arthur came running past as we all just followed him, I fell into pace beside Hermione, I looked down and noticed her boots.
"Oh my god, I love your boots! Where'd you get them!" I looked at her excitedly, they were a lovely shade of brown.
"Oh my parents bought them in the muggle world I wish I could tell you the store, but they are quite cute aren't they" I nodded in agreement. We started talking about where I was from and the change over from Canada to Britain.
"It was a little rough to start no lie, but the Weasleys have just been great with my mom and I, it's hard not to feel right at home, not to mention knowing people I'm going to be going to school with was a nice touch" Harry turned his head around as I was talking
"Sorry, where did you say you went again?" He asked
"Ilverymont," I said his eyes went wide as a smile draped across his face.
"I knew I recognized your name! I've read about you in the Daily Prophet!" I started to blush as Hermione looked puzzled
"Harry, what on earth are you talking about?"
"Do you not know who you're talking too? THE Athena Grey!"
"What's so special about that, no offense Athena you're great and all" Ron jumped in, I waved it off as it wasn't a big deal.
"Oh my god, Ron are you mad! What's so special about Athena Grey?! She's only the greatest Quidditch player to ever attended Ilverymont school! In her first year, she broke the record held for the most points scored in this school's history, was made captain after her third game, projected to be the next best thing to happen in Quidditch and represent Canada in the junior games! She's a legend!" He finished. I was pretty red as I was looking at the ground.
"It's not that big of a deal"
"Not that big of a deal!" Ron shouted "blimey are you crazy? That's amazing how come you never told us?"
"Guess it just never came up" I simply said, we started to slow down as Arthur met up with another man, he looked slightly older, mousey hair with glasses. He smiled and waved at Arthur when we all got closer so it was safe to assume they knew each other and would probably be joining us. I sorta zoned out their conversation not wanting to really pay that much attention, I was just really excited.
"Oh Amos, you have to meet Athena, she just moved here from Canada." I zoned back in at the sound of my name to greet the man, who's name I guess is Amos. He had a look of shock on his face that only lasted mere seconds, I'm surprised I even saw it for it was gone as quickly as it came.
"Pleasure to meet you" I stuck out my hand to which he greatly took, his son, I think his name is Cedric eyed me up and down only to interrupt his father.
"Wait a minute, are you-"
"Now Cedric," his father said very warningly. I was starting to get curious as to why people were acting so strange around me.
"Dad this is Athena Grey! Easily one of the best Quidditch players in the world" I felt the embarrassment from earlier creep back as my cheeks flushed.
"Oh, yes, why I suppose it is," Amos said, slightly less worried.
"I'm Cedric, er, I'm sure you already know that" I laughed and shook his hand
"And I'm sure you know me" he laughed nervously as he dropped my hand and began asking a million questions, to which Amos laughed.
"Now, now, Cedric DONT bore the poor girl let's be on our way." He took an old boot out of his bag and we all grabbed on. The boot was a portkey and before we knew it we were at the Quidditch World Cup!! I was absolutely buzzing with excitement, I'd never been to a cup game before to watch, I've played in a few but nothing as high intensity as this. We quickly found our camp assignment after Arthur struggled with Muggle money, which Harry had to assist him with.
"Okay boys in this tent, girls in the next!" He called
"You heard him Fred girls in this one!" I chimed over at him, he gave me a short laugh as he rolled his eyes and disappeared into the tent next to us. Ginny, Hermione, and I walked into ours and it was massive. Well for a tent that is, a charm was put on it no doubt about it.
"Ireland is gonna take the win for sure!" Ginny said excitedly
"Oh 100%, I better get a poster of Troy or else I'll be really upset" I couldn't help but laugh at how pathetic I sounded. Ginny's eyes lit up as we went into a deeper discussion of the game.
"You're kidding!" Hermione was on the ground basically peeing herself with laughter, as was I, while Ginny finished up a story about a practice where someone had taken a literal dump on their broom.
"What can you do at that point, I mean you're in the air might as well fly over the other team and let it out am I right?" I managed to get out only to send the girls into further laughter.
"But it was PRACTICE" she basically yelled, "it came so close, Athena INCHES FROM MY FACE" I couldn't do it anymore, tears were streaming down my face and my stomach was absolutely aching from laughing so hard. I haven't been able to laugh like this since, well, I can't remember a time I had. Don't get me wrong my other friends are great and all but, we never had this kind of a connection, especially this fast. I sat in that tent laughing for what felt like hours with people I'd just met but already knew I never wanted to leave me.
