Step 11 : Haunt

It's in the middle of the night and I just can't fall asleep . The image of Jack keep popping in my head as soon as I close my eyes . I get out of the bed and move out of our tent . Hoping for some peace outside .

I slide the cloth that were covering the exit and sat on a rock that used to be our port for some fun and chat . Used to be . Now we don't have the time to even smile like we use to smile .

I enjoyed the view even with all the screeching and growling . Maybe we ignored it too much . The guard were right . They were getting louder and greater in amount .

I took a deep breath --

"Can't sleep captain ? " I felt a hot stuff touches my wrist .

"Tom .. " He offered me a hot drink and stood there , asking me to join in . I took the cup and tap the rock beside me . He sat down and stretch out his free hand forward before getting in a comfy position .

" Something bothering you captain ? You didn't look so well " He took a sip . Blowing the water to cool it down a little .

"No it's nothing-- " I replied while I also took a sip . "Chocolate ?!" I replied raising my voice .

He shush me and smile . " I kept the best thing in my stock ! " He continue to sip it in .

"Oh my god ! I haven't had chocolate for such a long time !! " I was excited and kept on pleasuring the sweet smooth hot chocolate .

He chuckled and said " Well I'm glad that I did something right this time " He gaze to the far end where the screeching is coming from .

"Do you think we are safe ? " He jump down and walk to the barricades . "It didn't sound like we are safe "

I didn't know how to respond when he looked at me with his worried little eyes . Damn does he really need to bring this topic up ?

"No one is safe anymore " Once I said that , he kept looking towards the source of the screeching . I stood up and joined him . "Let us grab some shut eyes eh ? " I tapped his shoulder .

I thank him for the drink and walk towards the tent . " I saw my sister -- " I stopped for a while and face him . " You saw someone too right ? " He continues .

He told me everything about what happen to his sister . He lost her when the outbreak of the virus strike his hometown . He was feeding the barn animals and he heard a scream coming from inside of the house . He ran inside but it was too late . The infected were already chomping down her little sister's intestine .

I can't imagine if I'm in that position . Seeing someone you love killed in front of you . And you cant . do . a . single . thing .

He asked me who did I saw in the vision . Mom ? Dad ? My family ? No . I saw Jack . I didn't even know what happen to my family .

"You were right-- " he gave a sweet smile . "No one is safe anymore . "

I don't know how to respond hence I gave him the 'I told you so' face . At least I made him laugh . His parent escaped and survived in this group . A year after that I joined the crow and he joined the Botanist . He failed miserably so they threw him into the guardian .

It seems that he pissed off the captain of his group so he was tossed into Medic . Sadly , he didn't even pass the qualifications phase . So here he is . My group's eyes .

"I can't do anything right , heh heh " Tom grab the back of his neck and stroke it . Giving it a little massage .

I laughed to the story told by him and it may pisses him off a bit but then he joins in .

The screeching continues . Tom told me that he want to sleep so I excuses him . He walked into the tent tip toed . It's funny seeing him doing that .

I drank the whole cup without leaving a single drop . When will I taste this heavenly taste again ? Better make sure I enjoy it while I can .

The screeching continues . The Growling continues . There's even one of them stuck in our defense . Unable to move , he kept on scratching the wall of our defense .

I gave myself a little stretch and I started walking to my tent . Until I heard a very weird screech . A screech like it's screaming my name .

Li....Ly...

I turn and saw Jack smiling and waving at me again but this time ..

His eyes were red .
