CHAPTER 6

A few days had passed. Lisa was handling her responsibilities well. Ryan maintained enough distance from her, he wanted to give her time to settle in the office. Work was important too.

That day Lisa worked till late night because of the next day presentation. She had to set all the figures right. Ryan stayed too. They had become good friends and Lisa appreciated it.

She completed her work at around 11. It was difficult for her to catch a cab that late so Ryan offered to drop her, which she readily agreed to.

"Thanks!" She said while sitting in the car.

"No problem!" He replied.

It took them a few minutes to reach and it had started raining cats and dogs.

"Bye Jack! And thanks again!" She quickly got out and rang the bell.

Ryan was all set to go when he smelled smoke in the car. It was unusual for he didn't smoke. He too came out and saw that the smoke was coming from the engine.

"It wouldn't be safe to drive in this car untill it is checked by a mechanic." He told himself so he called for another car.

Lisa was still standing there and had witnessed all that happened.

"Hey! Jack! Come here!" She called him to come under the shed. Natalie hadn't opened the door yet. She wondered whether she was there or not.

"Yes?" He asked her. He was dripping wet and she could see his muscles below his shirt.

"What happened?" she asked him.

"There is some problem with the engine I guess. But no problem! I have called for another car! But why are you still standing here? You must go inside otherwise you will catch cold." He told her.

"I know! But Nobody is opening the door! And I don't even have the spare keys!" She informed.

"Why don't you try calling her?" He suggested.

She was about to call her when she saw a message in the inbox.

"Ohh NO!" She exclaimed.

"Is everything okay? " Ryan enquired.

"Not really, Natalie has a late night shoot, so she will be coming back in the morning, and she thinks that I have the other key!" Lisa said with disappointment.

Just then a car stopped in front of them.

"Hey look! My car is here. I was thinking. .... why don't you come with me?"

"What?" She was confused.

"I mean to say that, why don't you stay at my apartment for this night and come back tomorrow?"

"But.. How could I do that? No.. I'll be fine here. you go!" She smiled.

"And how exactly will you be fine? Sleeping on the street when it's raining so heavily?" He was angry.

"I'll be fiinneee!!! I can manage.  You must go now, it's getting late and tomorrow we have that important meeting too!" She tried to persuade him.

"So you won't listen to me? You will get ill! You have started sneezing already! Either you come with me on your own or else I will have to drag you!" He gave her the last warning.

She had to make a decision. He was right, she had no option other than going with him. So she readily sat in the car with him. Both of them were entirely wet and tired.

None of them uttered a single word. Lisa texted Natalie that she going to spend the night at Jack's place.
