I don't believe it. It's impossible and yet there he is, shopping for supplies, alive as ever. I almost think there was a mistake except I saw him jump from the tall Ferse building and had come to meet him as he lay dying a year ago. I look again to make sure I saw right but there he is, a little taller and older but the same face and chin length blonde hair. I don't even know the boy's name, but here he is, back from the dead. A small part of me wonders if that is his Kuvek gift and the rest abolishes the idea, Kuvek gifts come from only the four elements. I look at the boy again, he is talking to a man selling supplies and paying him under the table. I turn to Wequ, who is to my right buying supplies, I nudge her and she turns to me."I'm going to go for a little while," I whisper and Wequ nods and turns back to the seller. I walk to the boy, afraid he won't remember me, but am reassured when he turns to me and I watch as recognition blooms on his face.
"We should talk," I tell him; he nods and gestures for me to follow him.
"I'm Terin," he says and we walk to an empty alley so no one will overhear us, and before I am able to say anything, Terin holds up his hands.
"I don't know how this happened, one moment I was dead and the next alive. It's not my Kuvek gift because that's the ability to turn Earth into metal, and I haven't been able to do that since I came back to life," Terin says in a rush that suggests he has wanted to tell someone but didn't know who or how.
"But who are you and what were you doing that day I died?" He asks and I contemplate how to answer.
"My name is Dujuik and my friends and I work for an organization known as the SKD. They work on getting rid of the Ferse and bringing back the Kuvek," I tell him.
"I thought the SKD was down for a year now," he looks at me with a questioning expression.
"It has been but we still do what we've always done, destroy weapons and fight the bullies, but the SKD has been gathering strength for a while, it will be back soon," I reply.
"What if they don't start back again?" He puts words to my greatest fear.
"We'll cross that bridge if we come to it," I answer, "however, right now has nothing to do with the SKD and everything to do with you. Do you have a family?"
Terin shakes his head," my mom's dead and my dad left nine years ago," he tells me and I nod my head at the not uncommon fate of this young man.
"If you want you can come with us," I offer, "we can find you a room and try to find out what happened and see if we can get your Kuvek gift back." I study his face, a mixture of confusion and suspicion. He wasn't expecting an offer such as this and doesn't know if he can trust me but he doesn't have many other options. I must admit as well that my motives aren't purely in his interest; finding what cured him could save many lives and the gift to turn Earth into any metal could end poverty. Eventually, he nods his consent.
"Great," I say, "If you're done shopping we can walk to where you live so you can get your stuff, and if you ever change your mind we'll take you back, no questions asked," I add as a reassurance. He walks from the alley and motions for me to come; I follow as he walks from the market place and toward the residential area of the province.
This chapter is a bit short and I'm sorry about that but please tell me what you think about it, shortness aside.
