Chapter 13

Clara's POV

Francis and I spent the rest of the night in the house, on the couch, watching the Bourne Identity marathon, and eating a box of pizza. Around 10, he surprised me with a red velvet cupcake with a candle on the top that he had made. I couldn't have asked for a better birthday, and I fell asleep halfway through the Bourne Ultimatum.

When I woke up, I was snuggled up in my warm quilt. Even with my eyes shut I could tell it was morning. I could feel the sunlight streaming in the window and warming my face and hear the traffic out on the street. I began to drift back to sleep but noticed that my pillow was moving. I frowned and cracked my eyes open.

I was asleep on a human, Francis to be more specific. He was sleeping soundly with his arms around me. I looked down at myself and saw that I was still wearing clothes and let out a breath of relief.

I hated to admit it, but I actually liked being wrapped in his arms. It made me feel somewhat secure and safe. I smiled contently and put my head back down on his chest and tried to go back to sleep, which came with time.

Francis's POV

I woke up to a weight on my chest. I opened my eyes and looked down, only to see Clara's head on my chest and my arms wrapped around her.

I then remembered her falling asleep on me during the movie. I had not wanted to wake her so I had just turned the t.v. off and fallen asleep.

She let out a small sound of protest as I moved my arm and snuggled deeper into my arms, which brought me more joy than it should've.

I looked down at her and smiled. She looked like an Angel when she slept. Her hair looked like a golden brown with the sun hitting it. Her skin had a soft glow to it. Her mouth was slightly open. She was so sweet looking, but yet battle ready on the outside.

I suddenly felt a warmth spread through my chest when I looked at her. That had never happened to me before, and I enjoyed the feeling as it washed over me, but what did it mean? Being the country of love, I knew what love was like. I had seen so many couples come and walk the streets many times, but only a few had that utter loving moment. I had wanted it from the very beginning, but I had screwed it up with Joan. I finally had my second chance with Clara, and I wouldn't let the same thing happen to her, no matter what.

I fell asleep, now aware of the feelings I had for Clara.

Unknown POV

"Señor, maybe we shouldn't be doing this," a Latino man said as his albino haired friend tried to unlock the front door of a townhouse in Paris. They knew whose house it was and were deliberately trying to enter.

"Nien. It was Clara's birthday yesterday, and the Awesome me plans on giving her the perfect birthday surprise." the albino said, smiling rather evilly and pushing the door open.

The duo walked inside the quiet house. It was 10 o'clock and someone should've been up by now either making breakfast or doing paper work. The albino quietly bounded upstairs followed by his Spanish friend. He opened the glass French double doors and saw the room empty. He frowned and turned to his friend who came back from the other room across the hall.

"Where are they?" the Latino asked, puzzled.

"Check the 2nd floor, and I'll check the 1st," he replied and slid on the banister down to the first floor. He walked into the kitchen and saw all lights turned off and deserted. He then made his way into the living room where he froze when he saw the scene before him.
