I walked up the stairs to Elder Gutknect's lab. He was the oldest and wisest of us all; if anyone knew what was going on, it's him. "Elder Goudevict?" I called. "You there?"

I wondered what he was doing. He's always conjuring up potions and things. Plus he's old, so he can't really see well, despite his glasses. Or hear well. But he's the only chance I've got.

I called his name again. This time he heard me. He peeked his head out from a stack of books and adjusted his glasses. "Huh?" he asked, confused when he saw I was there. "Emily? Is- is that really you?"

The elderly skeleton stumbled down a flight of rickety stairs made of books. "I heard that Victor set you free," he said in his breathy old voice, "you should have officially died and went to Heaven by now."

"I did..." I said, "but I woke up here again. I was hoping you knew why." "Hmm..." the skeleton said, thinking as he rubbed his half- broken head. "Let me see what I have in my books."

He walked over to his bookshelf and picked out a stack of books, which were all old and dusty. He picked one from the pile and flipped it open to a random page. "Oh," he said to himself in a low, surprised voice. "What is it?" I asked.

"It turns out you weren't set free," the wise skeleton said. "What?" I asked, taken aback. I thought realizing that I had to set him free would set me free. That is what has happened... isn't it? "What do you mean?"

"Well my dear, it says here," the elder adjusted his glasses and began reading, "'You can only be set free once you are at peace and happy.' And you my dear, are not happy."

I froze, flabbergasted. I collapsed onto a dusty, old rocking chair as I came to a realization: I WASN'T happy! How could I be, knowing that the love of my life married some cheap whore that he doesn't even know?

I knew that this wasn't fair to Victoria. But this ESPECIALLY wasn't fair to me! Or to Victor. I deserved him. He deserved me! We deserve happiness. And I'll do whatever it takes to get it. Even if it means killing Victoria. I want her to suffer just as much as I did. Maybe then she'll learn what she put me through. I got up from the chair I was sitting in.

Emily singing: God, Give me Strength by Idina Menzel

*Now I have nothing, so God, give me strength 'cause I'm weak in his wake. And if I'm strong, I might still break. And I don't have anything to share that I won't throw away into the air! That song is sung out. And this bell is rung out. He was the light that I'd bless! She took my last chance of happiness!

So God, give me strength! God, give me strength!

I can't hold onto him, God. God, give me strength 'cause I no longer have his ring. And I'm lost in imagining! That song is sung out. And this bell is rung out. He was the light that I'd bless! She took my last chance of happiness!

So God, give me strength! God, if he'd grant me his indulgence and decline, I might as well wipe him from my memory. Fracture the spell as she becomes my enemy. Maybe I was washed out like a lip print on his shirt. See, I'm still a human. I want her to hurt! Oh, I want her to hurt!

God, give me strength! God, give me strength.  God, give me strength! God, give me strength.*

I turned toward Elder Gutknect. "I need to make a trip," I said purposefully. "A trip? Where?" he asked. Narrowing my eyes, I said, "The Land of the Living." Lightning lit up my face as I said it.

"You want to go upstairs? Again?" Elder Gutknect asked. Was this a trick question? OF COURSE I DID! How else was I supposed to visit my soon-to-be husband? "Is there a problem?" I asked, as serious as possible.

"No, no! No problem!" the elder said, shaking. He looked scared. I have no idea why! He grabbed a crow as it flew by, squeezed it, and a huge yellow egg came out.

"Remember the code word to come back here," Elder Gutknect said. "Hopscotch." Yeah, yeah, I knew it. Tick-tock, I'm trying to find the love of my life here! I had no time to lose.

Elder Gutknect hatched the egg, and a yellow mist fell over me, whisking me away to the world above.
