First Day
It's finally Monday, before I leave for the bus I tell my parents that I'm staying after school and I'll find a ride home. They don't question it because I do really need help with my classes. It felt like the day went by so slow that I will never be able to go to work. Finally one minute till the end of the day, and I can 'beeeeeeeep' out of here. Damn! I can never get used to our bell. Next I get a text from Mathis, he tells me that he's going to pick me up at the entrance. I tell my friends that I'm not riding the bus home and head towards the entrance there I saw one of the black SUVs from before. I head towards the car and got in.
Mathis at the driver's seat.
"How's your head?"
"It's fine, but try not to kick so hard next time." He says.
In the car I decided to do my homework since I'll probably not have time to do it there. We arrive at a building just like the one in Washington. He led to an indoor shooting range.
"The first thing you will learn today is how to shoot a gun."
"I've never even touched, let alone used one!"
"The first rule is never to point it at someone here, understood?"
"Yes."
"Alright I've already loaded the gun for you. I want you to shoot the target paper and try to hit the 'X'.
He hands me the gun. I grab it, its cold metal touches my skin and I shiver at the fact that this little thing could take someone's life away in an instant. I hold it with two hand like I see people in the movies do. I place my right index finger on the trigger and point the gun at the paper. My hands are shaking from the first time holding a gun.
I pull the trigger. "Bang" I get pushed back a bit from the force of the gun. The built didn't even hit the man on the paper. I looked at Mathis. "Try again, no one would be able to hit their target on their first try at your age with no experience unless it was beginners luck."
I look back at the paper, pointing the gun, taking a deep breath, and squinted my eyes to see the target better. I shoot, and suddenly the world around me slowed down. I could see the built hitting the paper right on the 'X' at the head. Then I started pulling the trigger till the clip was empty.
"Wow."
Startled by his voice I look at Mathis I had forgotten he was there.
"Second shot and you get him perfectly then the other shots were in the same exact spot not creating other holes. I've never seen anyone do that before."
We both stare at the paper for a couple seconds in amazement.
"Well I think that's enough shooting for today." He says reaching for the gun. I let him take it.
"Let's go do something else for a change."
"Okay."
We opened the door to head out of the shooting range when we see the director walking towards us.
"Mr. Banton!"
"Ah, Nora I see you just finished with the shooting."
"Yes."
"How did she do on her first try?" He directed the question to Mathis.
"The first try she missed but her second she hit the target right on the 'X' and the same with the rest of the clip."
"My god I've never seen or heard of that happening before." He said looking at me. "Well I have to get back the work. Good luck on your next lesson."
"Thank you" I replied.
And he walks away.
After we came to a room with a treadmill. Must have been from the last test that I sent them of me able to run faster.
"Let's see how fast you can run." I get on the treadmill and turn it on. I start out at the same pace as I did yesterday. I went faster and faster. The next thing I know I'm flown across the room hitting the wall behind me pretty hard and smoke is coming out of the treadmill. Not knowing what just happened I look around the room and notice that Mathis is looking at me wide eyed till he finally gets back to himself and helps me up.
"Thanks. What happened?"
"You went faster than the treadmill could handle so it exploded. Well it will take some time for the technicians to make a better treadmill to fit for you. For now I think that's all for today. I'll drive you back before your parents notice anything."
"Okay. How did you know that I didn't tell my parents?"
"We have our ways of finding things out."
He drove me home and said good-bye to each other. I went in my house. It's 4:30, I still have 2 hours till dinner.
"I'm home."
"Ah Nora, who brought you back?" My mom asks.
"My friends' dad. Oh and I'm staying after tomorrow too and you don't need to come and pick me up."
"Even so we should at least give him gas money to repay him for the rides he is giving you, and I hope that our house is not out of their way."
"That's fine and our house is on the way to theirs."
"Okay I'll give you money tomorrow so you can give it to him."
"Fine."
I had finished my homework in the car, so I have some free time. I spend my time cleaning my room that I rarely ever clean, by the time I'm almost done the bell rang. "Ding...Ding...Ding" That was the dinner bell telling everyone that dinner is ready so my mom doesn't have to yell that dinner is ready. I run down stairs hungry from all the things that Mathis made me do. I end up the first one there which is no surprise because I'm always there first. Then comes my older brother then my little brother. I also have an older sister but she is already off the college.
