The next morning, Conner hopped out of bed and quickly got ready. He accidentally slept in a bit and was never really a "late" person. Grabbing his light pink cardigan and messing with his hair, he sped out of the door. He grabbed a piece of toast and ate it on the run there.

When he arrived at the doors, he patted his hair down and entered, catching his breath.

Scene life, take two.

He went to his locker and fumbled around for his books, singing under his breath.
After the dream he had about Kevin, he realized he'd have to man up and at least attempt to ask him out today. He didn't know when, or how, but after watching his friends instantly fall in love, he was somehow inspired.

Kevin was hanging around his group of friends who called themselves "The Sewer Rats." They were loud, and obnoxious, and wore matching leather jackets. But Kevin was the leader, and Conner found it kind of intimidating, so he didn't mind.

The lovestruck boy just stood at his locker, watching Kevin mess around and chat with his friends.
He dreamed of the day they'd be together.

Then, Olly appeared from behind him.

"Now's the time."
Conner jumped and squealed.
"Oh my gosh, Olly! You've gotta stop doing that!" He said, putting his hand on his heart.
"Sorry for scaring you." Oliver said with a giggle. "But, this is your chance."
"You think so?"
"I know so. Go on." Oliver gave Conner a little shove.

To be honest, he didn't exactly know so. He just wanted Conner to make a move before anything got in the way. Oliver skipped away, leaving the boy to his own instinct.

Conner slowly inched towards the greaser, his heart pumping out of his chest.

Kevin turned around and smirked.
"Hey, prettyboy! Whatcha need?"
One of Kevin's friends raised an eyebrow.
"Ey, chief, who's this guy?" They asked.
"I'm Conner. Conner Mckinley." The shy boy softly said, waving.
"What's gotcha down, bud?" Kevin said, leaning on a locker and chewing on a toothpick.

Conner looked at the ground nervously and blushed. He couldn't get the words out, so he just stood there, stuttering.

"Hey, chief, he's blushing!" One of the Sewer Rats teased.

"Yeah! What is he, in love with you?" Another one added.

The whole group except for Kevin burst into laughter, and tears filled Conner's bright blue eyes.

"Ey, buddy, Theres a tailor a few blocks down the street, You need a poodle skirt? Maybe some nice heels?" The third friend harshly joked, causing Conner's face to go bright red, tears streaming down his cheeks. He violently turned around and ran away, crying.

Kevin raised his eyebrows. "Con, wait-" He let out a disappointed sigh.

"Guys... that was... uncalled for." The regretful greaser scolded them.

They stopped laughing.

"What?! Are you defending him?" The first friend asked.
"Wow, we don't know if you can even be our chief anymore."

Kevin lowered his brows and grabbed the bully by the collar.
"Listen, bub. I started this group. Me. Got it? So hows about I kick all you out?" He threatened.
The kid shivered with fear. "Uh... hah... No chief... it's..."

"No. Get out. And drop your jackets. You're nothing but a piece a' trash. All of ya'." He violently dropped the kid to the ground, and they scurried away, frantically taking off their jackets and throwing them to Kevin.

He sighed in anger. "I can't believe this..." He muttered.

Conner was curled up in the corner of the empty broom closet, crying his eyes out. "Why... Does everything bad have to happen... to me." He choked out behind his mass of tears.

Then, the door opened, and Kevin came in holding a present box.

"Con?" He said, concerned.
"Please go away."
"No." Kevin said, sitting next to the tear covered boy.

"That was real brave of you, Conner."

Conner turned away, sobbing.

"I'm sorry, Con! Listen, those were my jerky friends, I kicked 'em out of the group!"

Conner raised his head.

"But those were your only friends... You didn't have to..."
"No. They aren't my only friends, because I have you."

Conner smiled, but the smile dropped quickly.
"Thats nice of you, but... I can't show my face in this school anymore. I'll be the laughing stock!"
"Shh... No... No you won't. Because i'll make sure anyone who laughs at you, can't laugh ever again." Kevin joked.
Conner chuckled a little.

"I got you a little present." Kevin said, handing Conner the box.
"Why are you doing this for me, anyway?"
"Shh... Just open it."

It was a long, light pink poodle skirt and some heels.

Conner had a concerned look on his face.
"You set me up."
"No. I didn't, Conner. I'm giving you that because I want you to wear it. And when you wear it, I want to you walk down the halls just rocking and rolling, and showing everyone how much of a queen you are. Also, I want you to wear it on our first date. You would look really cute in it."
Conner smiled and blushed, tears of joy filling his eyes.

"Really?"
"Really. Look deeper in the box."

Conner removed a piece of tissue paper to reveal two tickets to the drive in and an Elvis record.
He smiled. "You didn't have to-"

"Yes I did. Because you were super brave back there. And you deserve every bit of happiness in the world. You're such a little ray of sunshine, I couldn't stand to see you hurt." Kevin paused for a bit, wiping away Conner's tears.
"But now you're my little ray of sunshine."

Conner smiled, bursting into tears of joy and ecstatically wrapping his arms around Kevin, hugging him as tight as possible.
Kevin closed his eyes and patted the sweet kid on the back.

"How's tonight at seven sound?"

Conner pulled away. "Tonight at seven sounds swell! Oh my golly... I can't believe this."
"Well, you better believe it." Kevin answered, smirking.
Conner pecked him on the cheek, giggling softly.
"This is like a dream come true! Oh my golly, I really love you, Kevin Price! I really really really love you!"
Kevin smiled, listening to Conner's adorable ramblings.

"I love you too."

Conner never would've imagined the Kevin Price saying that to him, and he pulled him into another quick hug. When it was finished, Kevin stood up, offering his hand to Conner. He helped him up and giggled.
"Now get to class, champ." Kevin insisted, patting Conner on the back and chuckling.

He was completely satisfied with himself. He didn't care who would make fun of him, or tease him, or reject him, or anything. He made Conner Mckinley happy, and that was all that mattered.
