Conner stepped into the huge, not-so-welcoming school, looking around the halls. He was immediately overwhelmed by chaos and signs of him never fitting in. But he was always told to stay optimistic, so he slapped a smile on his face and walked up to the first group of people he saw.

It was a group of 4 guys in bright pink varsity jackets with the words "Sparkle Tarts" plastered on the back. They seemed spunky, preppy, and flamboyant. Conner shyly inched over to one member, a friendly looking guy with dirty blonde hair. He was 5"3, with blue eyes and a bright smile.
"Hey, uh... sorry. Conner Mckinley. I'm new here." Conner said with a small chuckle.

"Woah! Hey! A new guy!" The mystery friend exclaimed. "I'm Chris Thomas."
"-But we call 'im Poptarts!" One of Chris' friends loudly interrupted.
Conner laughed softly. These people seemed super cool, like the people he'd want to be around regularly.

The interrupting friend flashed a mischievous smile. He was a whole foot taller, with a similar build and look. Most of the kids in this group looked alike. But their personalities and heights definitely differed.
"Heya! Just call me Church."
"He thinks he sounds cool."
"I do!"

A shy boy came out of the group, with dark hair and pretty average height. "Hi... I'm Olly."
"And I'm Ben!" The last kid added, with blue eyes and darker hair, falling at about 5"6.
Conner couldn't help but just stand and stare, laughing under his breath at almost everything. He strived so hard to have friends like this.

"You wanna be a Sparkle Tart, bud? We're always up for helpin' out a new guy!" Church added.
Conner smiled. "Really? You'd do that? Y-yeah!" He chirped. He was ecstatic. When suddenly, Kevin leaned up against the locker next to Conner.

His heart immediately skipped a beat. "Uh-Ah- Uh... Hi..." He stuttered, flashing a dumb smile. The rest of the Sparkle Tarts just silently backed away, and watched in awe as the awkward scene went on.

Kevin smirked sneakily. "So, already made friends, pretty-boy?" He teased, motioning towards the group of Conner's new allies.
"Yeah... They're pretty neat." The shy boy answered.
"Well, whaddya' know. Hey, what's your schedule look like?" The charming greaser asked.

Conner's heart jumped out of his chest. "Uh... Well... I'm free on Saturday! Are you-"
"No, genius! Your school schedule!" Kevin retorted.
Conner blushed in embarrassment. "Oh... hah... um..."
"Whatever. I'm goin'. You need to take a few speech classes, kid." Kevin laughed and turned around, bouncing down the hallway with swagger and confidence.

Even though he covered it up with a "cool" facade, the boy really did like Conner. He found his awkwardness absolutely adorable. But he buried those feelings.

Conner turned around with overwhelmed tears in his eyes. Chris ran up and patted him on the back. "Listen, Conner. Your not gonna score on the first shot." He lectured the upset kid.

Conner wiped his eyes and sniffled. "Why am I crying? Why do I have this weird feeling in my heart? I'm confused, guys! I'm scared! Help! Am I dying?" He started to panic.

Chris smirked and shot a knowing look at the other 3 Sparkle Tarts. "We know this feeling. We know it too well. And you ain't dyin'. But you might as well." He said, laughing.

Conner gasped. "Well what is it?"
Church walked up and put his hand on Conner's shoulder. "We'll discuss it at lunch. You've got to get to first period."
