Gabriel Novak pushes open the heavy door. It creaks on its hinges. Gabriel's face brightens at the sight of the man within the white room.
"Gabriel!" A deep voice rumbles.
"Hey moose," Gabriel breaks out into a smile and steps into the open arms of Sam Winchester.
"I've missed you Gabe," Sam's huge form engulfs Gabriel's much smaller figure.
"I missed you too." Gabriel smiles, it all seems so normal.
Sam pulls him toward the bed and they sit.
"How are you feeling today?" Gabriel asks softly as he takes Sam's large hands into his own. The scars on his arms are prominent on his tanned skin. Glass can do some heavy damage if you aren't careful.
"I'm good," Sam nods. "I'm getting so much better." He looks at Sam and gives him a huge smile. "Enough about me though, how are you doing, it's been weeks since I saw you last."
"The shop is going good, tons of customers visit everyday." Gabriel talks about the candy shop Gabriel opened not long after he and Sam got together. "Trixie misses you," Trixie is their dog, a German Shepard.
"You should bring her to visit," Sam suggests.
"I don't think dogs are allowed in here," Gabriel points out.
"I guess you're right," Sam nods. "How's your shoulder?" He looks down at Gabriel.
"It's healed, I can move my arm with minimal pain now." Gabriel smiles slightly.
"I'm sorry," Sam has a pained look in his eyes. He looks down and picks at the white shirt he's wearing.
"I don't blame you, you don't need to apologize." Gabriel caresses Sam's face. "You weren't in your right mind is all." Gabriel can see the tears threatening to spill out on Sam's cheeks.
"But I blame myself." He sniffs. "I never, ever wanted to hurt you. It pains me to know that I did. I can never forgive myself."
"Stop!" Gabriel growls. "Don't beat yourself up over this. I still love you, what happened was an accident. You need to stop." Gabriel hates to see his love this way.
They fall silent. Gabriel brushes the tears from Sam's face and kisses him where the tears trailed.
"Dr. Singer said you have been making considerable progress." Gabriel finally says. "He says that they may have found a medicine for you."
"I know," Sam sighs. "I started taking it this morning. I can't see your wings anymore."
"Any demon or monster sightings?" Gabriel presses. He probably should not be saying this, but he wants to know.
"I saw one demon today, and I saw Ruby yesterday." Sam picks at the medical band on his wrist.
"Are you okay?" Gabriel asks.
"I don't know, it's just so hard to separate reality from the things in my mind." Sam let's his finger trail over the word on the band, the thing that made their world crash down around them; schizophrenia.
"You could be coming home soon," Gabriel covers the band. "That's what's important. You just have to get better."
"Marry me," Sam says suddenly.
"What?" Gabriel sputters.
"Marry me," Sam leans over and grabs something off of the table by his bed.
"I want to get better this could be the perfect incentive to push me towards sanity, to you." He holds up a crudely made ring. It's made of pipe cleaners and beads."I don't know." Gabriel murmurs.
"I'm sorry I don't have a real ring, it's all I have for now, but once I'm out and better I'll get you a real one, gold, like your wings." Sam says sheepishly.
"Sam, those wings aren't real." Gabriel pushes a piece of hair behind Sam's ear.
"Humor me," Sam chuckles. "I love you, and I want to be with you. You are my anchor to reality." He holds the ring out to Gabriel.
Gabriel stares at the ring. He wants so badly to say yes, for things to go back to the way they were. Back to when things were perfect.
