London chapter 4
The cafeteria looked like a dining hall for royalty. I had to stop myself from looking up and admiring the sparkling chandeliers that hangs from the ceiling and the beautiful rose carvings on the stone walls. I didn't want to show that I was impressed with the school.
It turned out the cafeteria at century high was different from most other normal cafeterias. Here instead of getting your food, you find a seat at the table and ring a small silver bell and the waiter for that specific table comes and hands you a fancy menu and takes your order. It's like a restaurant.
I was about to sit down at an empty table when a couple of nice looking girls gestured for me to sit with them. I decided to and sat down beside a pretty girl with frizzy red hair and a sharp nose. "Hey, I'm Samantha! And this is Melanie and Gigi." She pointed at two other girls, one had long blonde hair, while the other had dark skin and black hair. They smiled at me. "Hi I'm London." I said, putting my backpack underneath the table. "Yeah of course, we've heard all about you." I frowned, "you have?" "Everyone's been talking about you London. Some say you are Susan May and Chris May's daughter, others say you're a princess from England, some even says you're Jessie's sister!" I gasped, "what??" "Anyways, my point is you are the only person everybody could talk about, they've all been trying to figure out who you are because right now to them you are a mysterious new figure at this school-" "and not to mention the fact that you've sat in Jessie's chair." The blonde girl piped up.
Oh there it goes again. That Jessie. "Who's Jessie?" I asked. The girl with black hair gasped, "you haven't heard?" "Today's her first day Melanie, I'll explain to her." Samantha said impatiently. She lowered her voice, "Jessie Saunders was the most popular girl at century high. She was the queen bee. She's the kind of person you would not want as your enemy. She's cruel, vicious, evil, and dangerous. But last week, she went missing and the police never found her body. Look." She nudged her head at the table a few feet away from us. There sits the rude brunette and her friends who told me to get out of Jessie's seat in science.
But something was off with them. The four girls sit there, two on one side and two on the other, an empty chair at the head of the table. The fancy salads in front of them sits untouched, and the girls' eyes looks dead like stone. They sat there, not moving, and that's when I noticed something stranger.
They'd lit a few black candles on the table, the black wax dripping onto the expensive gold table cloth. But there was also a plate filled with food sitting there at the head of the table. Knives and forks neatly arranged beside the plate, a napkin folded into a rose.
Who's sitting there? I wondered. But I already knew the answer.
"Jessie." Samantha whispered, echoing my thought.
A cold shiver ran down my spine. This was all extremely creepy. "That's Louise, Samara, Blair, and Doris. They were Jessie's puppets. Followed her around everywhere, and does her evil deeds for her. I guess now they've gone insane without their leader." Samantha shrugged and went back to her food.
But I stared at the girls a little longer, there was something wrong about them. It's like there was a dark mysterious evil aura around them, like they were under a spell. I eyed the folded rose napkin sitting on the table, and then looked up at the roses carved onto the ceiling. I've seen that rose before, I'm sure of it. I tried reaching into my memory, but the more I search for the answer the hazier it gets. The connection slipped away.
Suddenly, all four girls whirled around so suddenly it startled me and made me drop my fork with a loud "ting!" Their dead eyes stared at me, as if they could see right through me.
As if someone was controlling their movements.
The four girls slowly turned their heads back, all moving right in sync.
I shivered and went back to eating my salad.
