Elora
"Elora you have a letter!"
I can hear our maid, Maria calling me from the other side of my bedroom door. Maria is only a couple years older than I am and we get along pretty well. She's a really sweet girl too.
"Come in!" I say as I get up from my desk to greet her. She opens the door and walks into the room, and I notice the envelope in her hand is tan with a red wax seal that has the Wraith family emblem on it which, although it is old fashioned, can only be from Andrius. She puts the envelope in my hand and looks as though she wants to say something as I rip it open hastily.
"What?" I glance up at her as I pull out the glossy letter and unfold it.
"Elora...It's from Andrius isn't it." I've already started skimming over the letter as she speaks and the words I'm seeing are spinning through my mind.
"Hmm? Yeah." I mumble and as I reach about halfway through the short letter my mouth drops.
Elora Marilla Westons,
Hello Elora. I truly miss seeing you everyday like I used to when we went to private school together. And I regret that we haven not been in contact like we should be. As you know my birthday was two days ago and that means a selection will be held for me to chose my bride. As my best friend you know that I always look to you for guidance in these matters and this is probably going to be the most important decision of my life. I would be so happy El, if you would take part in this selection and be one of the selected ladies that will come to my home. If you chose to accept, a car will come by your house at 8 in the morning, tomorrow and pick you up. I hope you come.
Sincerely, Andrius Caspian Marcus Alexander Wraith
P.S. I apologize that this is a much shorter letter than I would normally write but if you accept I will talk to you in person soon enough.
"Elora? Miss Elora what does it say?" Maria has the curtesy not to peek over my shoulder but I was still too stunned by the contents of the letter to answer her for a few more moments. By the time I snapped out of it she was still looking at me intently and a smile appears on my face.
"Maria...I'm going to be a part of Prince Andrius' selection."
I can tell just by her reaction how happy she is for me. It may not be the traditional way that selected girls are chosen, but I am apparently not a traditional selected.
The next thing I know, I'm racing down the stairs to tell my mother. My mom is the head chef at a fancy restaurant in town called The Red Rose and my papa is in the military. He isn't home right now because he's off in another country, but that's all I know; my parents believe that keeping me in the dark about these things will help me to worry less.
I take the steps two at a time as I run downstairs to the sitting room, my bare feet making funny slapping noises against the stone. "Mama!" I say breathless as I arrive in the sitting room entrance way and I thrust the letter out at her.
Her eyes widen and a smile spreads across her dainty face, "Elora sweetie, slow down. What's gotten you so excited?"
My mother is really beautiful. People always say how I look just like she did when she was my age, but I just don't see it. I mean we have the same dark brown hair and the same warm brown eyes, but she's much taller than I am and I still think the rest of my features are from my papa. She opens the letter and I watch as her eyes scan the page. Her smile grows even more before she folds up the letter again and places it back in my hands, "Then lets get you packed."
[] Hey, I'm sorry this part is so short. I've been very busy lately, but soon the parts will get longer : ) Please enjoy and vote if you like it. Thanks -Em []
