Chapter 20
Undefined futures, unexpected visitors
"Kids, be ready in ten, it's almost time to leave." Matthew Ramsey called excitedly, pounding on his daughter's door for the tenth time in the last two hours.
"Jesus, Mr. R! When will you give up? She said you cannot see her till she is ready so stop trying to get in. And we still have more than an hour. Get a life!" Ryan yelled from inside, where he was sprawled on Mandy's bed, playing a video game with Noah.
"Alright, alright. I'll go straighten my tie, or have a coffee, or something. Tell her I miss her already!"
"She can hear you, by the way." Ryan replied and turned to glance at Amanda, who was frowning at her reflection in the mirror, with Sarah and MJ standing on either side of her.
For the last hour, the girls were working on what they called 'light' makeup and the boys were doing all they could to ignore them.
"Mandy, your old man is literally driving me insane, and this boyfriend of yours keeps on texting every few minutes. I'm not replying for you again."
"Alright, alright! Let them just wait. And I agree, dad seriously needs to get a life." Amanda replied distractedly as she wiped the bright pink lip gloss and applied the clear one. Minimal was the key to your graduation ceremony, she kept on telling herself and somehow ruined it every time.
"More like he needs a wife or, he just needs to get laid once in a while," Noah suggested from Ryan's side, wiggling his brows.
"Eew, shut up guys. That's my dad you're talking about." Amanda made a face.
"He is also a very young and healthy man, and trust me, dad or not, men have needs. Unless he is... you know... not into women or men." Noah said turning away from his game to give Mandy a sly wink.
Mandy grabbed whatever she could find within her reach and threw it in Noah's direction. "My dad's not an asexual! He dates women." she yelled. Noah yelped, falling from the bed as he tried dodging the bottle of mascara that ended up hitting him square on the nose.
Thanks to his quick reflexes, Chris grabbed his boyfriend by the waist before he hit the floor face first and pulled him to sit beside him on the floor where he was scribbling something on his notebook for the past hour.
"When will you stop trying to break your nose?" Chris sighed heavily and tilted his head to look back at the girls who were still hovering before the large mirror, twirling in their dresses. "May Jay, you look great! Now, can you throw me that pack of baby wipe?"
MJ snorted, and threw a pack in his direction, "You're not gonna wipe his ass, are you?"
Chris caught the pack with a roll of his eyes, and looked her right in the eyes with a dead serious expression, "Not here, Mary Jane. You know we don't do such things in public. I don't like PDAs so much."
"Chris!" Noah yelped hiding his face behind his hands as MJ turned beetroot red, and gaped at them like a fish out of water.
She turned away, embarrassed when Christian started laughing.
"Just look at your face! MJ, you're too innocent for your dark, gothic persona. You're as sweet and good as your name. I mean who can even imagine a bad ass girl named 'Mary Jane'? I think you should just stop acting like one." MJ just gave him the stink eye making him laugh harder.
He started wiping the black mascara off Noah's face, taking his time. When he was done, he kissed the tip of his nose tenderly. Noah's eyes fluttered closed as he took in a long breath, savoring the moment, a smile brightening his face.
