Chapter 6
Sarah
After a round of pillow fight, they were sitting in the dining room grinning from ear to ear. Matt looked at both of them with an amused smile as he served dinner.
“So I can guess everything is fine between the two of you from the devilish smirks on your faces.” Mr. Ramsey said cheerfully.
Both of them nodded and smiled at the same time, making him laugh, “Well, this calls for a celebration. You guys can say cheers with the milk glasses while I gulp down my beer.” He said excitedly and went into the kitchen for his favorite beer. “To your friendship!” he toasted as he took his seat.
They laughed at his antics and toasted with their milk glasses, “To our friendship.”
“So, does that mean I don’t have to worry? We are just toasting the stronger friendship, right guys?” he raised his eye-brow at Ryan, as if daring him to say something else.
Ryan shook his head side by side with his eyes wide open, “No Sir, though your daughter is an amazing girl, I love her like a sister. And even she feels the same, so I don’t think there can be anything more between us.” he said truthfully earning a nod of approval from the older man.
“And besides, he has a girlfriend he is crazy about.” Amanda added.
Ryan’s eyes widened as if lightening had struck him. “I do, don’t I? I am so dead. I was supposed to call her this evening.” he said reaching into his pocket for his cell phone, only to realize he had left it at home in a rush.
Mr. Ramsey chuckled and patted his back, “Don’t worry son. There is nothing a bunch of flowers and a box of chocolate can’t solve. Now finish your dinner like good kids, and then call her to say sorry.” he said sternly. Ryan nodded. He was ready to bolt out of there any minute.
After dinner, Amanda walked him to the front gate. He was fidgeting with his hands and looking so nervous that it was almost comical.
“Don’t worry, Ryan. Sarah is amazing, I’m sure she’ll understand.” She tried assuring him.
As they reached her gate, he gathered her in his arms and pecked her cheek, “Okay. And I promise I won’t tell her anything. I am sure you’d like to do it yourself, if you ever want them to know.” he said pulling back and pulled her nose.
She looked up at him with a smile and nodded. Ryan pulled open the gate and froze mid-step. He frowned as he stared at the road, shaking his head in confusion.
“What is it?”Amanda whispered, coming to his side to see what he was looking at.
He turned to her with a frown, “Nothing, I just thought I saw Mr. Crosby’s car parked on the opposite lane. But before I could be sure, the car went flying down the road.
“What?” Amanda could hear her heart beating in her ears. She felt a surge of excitement but was quick to push it down. As complicated as things already were, this was the cherry on top to mess things up.
“Maybe it was just the same kind of car.” he shrugged and she nodded, not sure if she wanted it to be him or not.
“I don’t think he even knows where I live. And even if he does why would he come by outside my place? That’s just creepy.” she said more to convince herself than him.
“Yeah babes, don’t worry about it. I’ll see you at school tomorrow. “ he said ruffling her hair and started jogging towards his place.
Amanda closed her front gate after checking both sides of the road several times. She decided she was too happy and at the same time exhausted to think about anything as stupid as her crush on the health teacher. She went straight to bed falling into a peaceful, dreamless sleep after a long time.
