Chapter 5
The next day Kimberley is in the kitchen drinking a cup of tea. Nadine comes down and boils the kettle “Good night?”
“Yeah it was fun” Kim replies smiling
Making a cup of tea, Nadine sits down opposite Kim and smiles.
“You seemed a bit down yesterday”
“Hmmm” Nadine takes a sip of her tea
Kimberley watches Nadine carefully waiting for her to say something else “Are you ok?”
“I’m fine” Nadine stands up with her tea “I’m gonna go have a shower” She says walking off upstairs leaving Kimberley.
As she walks along the landing towards her room she sees Cheryl walking towards her.
“Hey Nadz” Cheryl says stopping in front of the girl “Did you have a good night?”
“Yeah it was fun, did you have a good time?”
“Yeah” Cheryl smiles “Could’ve been better though”
Nadine frowns “Better?”
Cheryl winks and walks past Nadine to the stairs.
Turning around Nadine watches as the Geordie walks away.
Cheryl walks down the stairs and into the living room and sees Nicola sat on the settee reading a magazine “Hey Nic”
Looking up, Nicola smiles “We’re thinking about going shopping. You wanna come?”
“Who’s going?”
“Me, Sarah and Kimberley. Nadine said she’s going to sleep off her hangover”
Thinking this could be her chance to be alone with Nadine, Cheryl smiles “I think I’m gonna stay here”
“You sure?” Nicola asks
“Yeah. Nadine may need some company”
“Fair enough”
“Nic you ready?” Sarah shouts from the living room door
“Yeah I’m coming” Nicola stands up and walks towards the door “Cya later Chez”
“Bye girls have fun” Cheryl walks out of the living room and up the stairs. She walks up to Nadine’s room and knocks on it gently Getting no reply she puts her ear up to the door to see if she can hear any movement. She can hear the shower going so decides to go downstairs and make herself a cup of tea. She sits at the kitchen table drinking her tea in silence. A few minutes later Cheryl can hear someone walking down the stairs. She smiles to herself waiting for Nadine to enter the kitchen. When she sees the Irish girl she looks her up and down making the girl blush “Hey babe”
Sitting down opposite Cheryl at the table Nadine fiddles with her fingers “Have the girls gone shopping?”
“They have” Cheryl smiles watching Nadine intently “We’re all alone”
Nadine smiles gently then looks down to her hands avoiding eye contact with Cheryl.
“You’re nervous”
“I’m not” Nadine says still not looking up
“Then stop fiddling with you’re hands” Cheryl says reaching across the table and taking both of Nadine’s hands in her own causing the Irish girl to look up.
“Sorry” Nadine says sheepishly
“It’s ok” Cheryl smiles warmly trying to make Nadine feel more comfortable “What are you doing until the girls get back then”
“Just gonna chill out on the settee. What about you?”
Gently stroking Nadine’s hands, Cheryl replies “Same”
Standing up Cheryl pulls Nadine to her feet and into the living room. She sits down pulling Nadine with her so they are now sat next to each other. She grabs the remote and turns on the TV not caring what they’re watching. She turns to face Nadine with a smile on her face “Last night was fun”
“Yeah” Nadine agrees looking at Cheryl
“I would’ve preferred a different ending to it though” Cheryl winks
Frowning Nadine looks at the TV screen
“And I know you would’ve as well” Cheryl says trying to get Nadine’s attention
Looking back at Cheryl, Nadine sighs “Why would you think that?”
“Your face when Sarah interrupted” Cheryl begins “You looked annoyed and when you went to sit down you looked totally lost and unhappy”
“You were watching me?”
“I can never take my eyes off you” Cheryl says looking straight into Nadine’s eyes
“Please don’t start this again Cheryl”
“Why not?”
“It’s not right” Nadine says looking down
“Why isn’t it right?”
“Think of the band Cheryl”
“I have” Cheryl says putting her hand under Nadine’s chin and pulling her face up so she can look into her eyes “The girls will be happy for us”
“The fans?”
“We can be gay role models” Cheryl winks
“My family”
“They will be fine Nadine”
“You don’t know that”
Looking directly into the Irish girl’s eyes Cheryl replies “You’ll never know unless you take risks Nadine” Cheryl stands up and walks out of the room.
Nadine sits on her own in silence thinking over what Cheryl just said. Shaking her head she stands up and walks out of the living room to find Cheryl. She looks everywhere downstairs and can’t find the girl. Nadine walks up the stairs and checks all of the rooms still not finding Cheryl. “Where is she?” She goes into her own bedroom and looks out of the window. She smiles when she sees Cheryl in the garden sitting by the swimming pool with her legs hanging in the water. Walking down the stairs Nadine goes out her back door and into her garden. She walks up to Cheryl and sits next to the girl. She takes off her shoes and puts her feet into the water. After a few minutes of silence Nadine speaks. “I’m scared”
“You don’t have to be. I’ll take good care if you” Cheryl says taking Nadine’s hand in her own and resting it on her lap
“I know”
Cheryl turns her head to face Nadine and smiles “We have the chance to be really happy. What do you say?”
Smiling Nadine replies “I think I’m going to take a risk”
Cheryl pulls Nadine into a hug and whispers into her ear “Come with me” Cheryl stands up and walks away.
“Where are we going?” Nadine says following the girl.
Turning around Cheryl winks “You’ll see” She holds her hand out for Nadine to take “Come on”
Taking Cheryl’s hand, Nadine follows the Geordie.
